gpm and gnome-mplayer

I went to watch a video today, only to find gnome-mplayer not working. This is the console message I received

gnome-mplayer ~/Music/Music\ Videos/Opeth\ -\ The\ Roundhouse\ Tapes\ \(2008\)\ -\ YouTube.mp4
GMLIB-Message: after init: position=0.000 length=0.000 start_time=0.000 run_time=0.000 volume=0.00 player=dead media=unknown uri=
GMLIB-Message: in media state change with state = unknown dontplaynext = 0

After trying to re-install gnome-mplayer and removing the config file in ~/ to no avail, I tried running mplayer.

gnome-mplayer yngwie.flv
GMLIB-Message: after init: position=0.000 length=0.000 start_time=0.000 run_time=0.000 volume=0.00 player=dead media=unknown uri=
Segmentation fault (core dumped)

Pretty cryptic I thought.

After a while of thinking what had changed since yesterday.... I installed gpm for console mouse support. I later decided I didn't like it so attempted to remove it. I saw some warning about dependancies but as I had only just installed it - I thought it safe to remove. Well, it seems the answer to that is no, as a re-install of gpm fixed my gnome-mplayer.

Just thought I would post this, incase someone else comes across it too.

Many thanks
