After seeing several posts from newbie in the past weeks about having trouble with doing an FTP-install, i am thinking about writing a How-To.
I started making notes after 2.6.14/initrd were added to current, and could have it ready early next week, based on the 0.7 wombat iso.
The install for 0.7.1 will probably make that How-To obsolete, but i don't know how long it will be before there is an 0.7.1 final ISO.
Should i go ahead and make the How-To based on Wombat anyway or wait until it is replaced by a Noodle iso ?

mm I won't answer your question, but for all the newbs you can suggest to install from 0.7.1 pre .iso (it's on ftp).
Worked fine for me.

add one mor how to to the other 25 existing ones. No one will search for it, and a week later, a new newbie will reask theis question.

It was my first install of Arch Linux (ftp) and I missed or better I didn't found how to make Reiser file system. I have ext3 now. I did partitioning manually.
Thanks.

Instead of "mkfs.ext3" you run "mkfs.reiser".
@ Lone-Wolf: how does an FTP-install with 0.7 differ from 0.7.1? The stuff that's installed is different, not the procedure. (At least I didn't notice anything different when installing 0.7.1, after rebooting it didn't work out of the box tho.)

I haven't tried the 0.7.1 pre-iso and it looks like new users may have trouble finding that iso.
The download links on the first page makes finding the wombat iso rather easy, specially if you use bittorent.
From what i read about the 0.7.1-pre it doesn't use devfsd anymore and also has initrd in it, so the changes you need to make will be different.
Also the 0.7.1-pre iso a full iso of 542 Mb+ , while the 0.7 base iso is only 214 Mb.
For an ftp-install you only need the base iso.
Since i haven't seen any indication when 0.7.1 will be officially released, i'll make the how-to for the wombat base iso. I expect to post it for comments next weekend.
Note : this will be for a simple install with xorg and kde only, aimed at giving new users an easy way to get arch running.

I think that i missed something. I did choose manually partion. Menu did open and there I didn't seen a reiser file system. There are options for ext3 for many other but as I said I didn't saw but it is possible that I missed something.

I've read somewhere that the official documentation for 0.7.1 was (almost?) done and that the 0.7.1 iso will be out soon. IMHO, the best thing to do would be to wait a bit.
