Suspend broken since Kernel 3.10.6.2 on Thinkpad :/

I have a Lenovo x120e Thinkpad, and ever since this kernel upgrade, suspend has only works roughly half the time. The display turns off, but the computer itself keeps running. I first noticed it when I took my computer out of it's sleeve after sleeping it, and it was extremely hot. Only way to bring it back is to hold power or remove the battery, and then restart hmm

Anyone else experiencing similar issues?

You should always first try to use the Magic SysRq key in order to try to reboot the machine cleanly.  You will have to turn it on with an entry in either sysctl.conf or sysctl.d.  There is documentation on it in the linux-docs package, and it is also mentioned in the wiki on the "Keyboard Shortcuts" page.

Suspend has been wonky on some machines in the 3.10 series of kernels.  Have you checked your logs to see if there is anything apparently wrong when you try to suspend?  I have a feeling that you might see a whole crap load of mei_me errors.  If this is the case, you can blacklist mei_me, but that will often lead to the inability to suspend.... which is not at all a solution to your problem.

In any case, you need to do some digging around your machine in order to give a better idea of what is actually going on in your system.

I think its the bug in the me-mei module. You have either to blacklist the module or to remove and load the module after every suspend to workaround against this.

I have been seeing harmless mei errors for sometime. Is it safe to blacklist it?

Yes it is, but reloading it after suspend works too.

Why do you want to blacklist it if they are harmless given that it will break functionality, at best?

@cfr According to thread, mei_me might not be so harmless. For months I was having lock-up problems. In my brief testing, it looks like blacklisting mei_me solves lock-up problems but as a result KDE now fails to automatically suspend. I also had mei blacklisted because I would annoying errors whenever I would lock my system.

UPDATE:- I had a system lock up after blacklisting mei_me which I thought was cause of lock up. So, mei_me doesn't seem to cause lock ups.
