Hi,
I know tis is a recurring topic but i cant resolv it !
I am havin trouble with tearing while watching videos in fullscreen with flash plugins and any other program that scale the video while watching it fullscreen.
In VLC when I dont set any resolution and leave it as it is in fullscreen I dont expereince the problem.
i tryied without composite but it doesnt change anything. and I bet the composite is the option that might solve this issue.
I am runing LXDE with compiz as a standard desktop that I dont want to change for a heavy desktop manager.
Here is my config
System: Host: macbookpro Kernel: 3.10.11-LAPTOP x86_64 (64 bit) Desktop: N/A Distro: Arch Linux
CPU: Dual core Intel Core i5-2415M CPU (-HT-MCP-) clocked at 800.00 MHz
Graphics: Card: Intel 2nd Generation Core Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller
X.Org: 1.14.2 driver: intel Resolution: 1280x800@60.2hz, 1360x768@60.0hz
GLX Renderer: Mesa DRI Intel Sandybridge Mobile GLX Version: 3.0 Mesa 9.2.0
Drives: HDD Total Size: 320.1GB (11.8% used)
Info: Processes: 126 Uptime: 2 min Memory: 223.3/3868.8MB Client: Shell (bash) inxi: 1.9.14
I use two screens in mirror mode but the main display (the latop screen) is desactivated, anyway i get also tearing on my laptop screen.
Can someone tell me what to do please, it seems that the problem was not happnaning with older kernel or video driver.
Where is the improvement about video rendering in the last 5 years ??

Have you tried compton? I don’t know if it’s compatible with compiz or if it solves tearing on 2nd gen HD graphics, but it’s working for me with xfwm on 1st gen HD graphics.
compton -c -f -o 1.0 -I 0.1 -O 0.1 -C -i 0.95 -z --vsync opengl-swc --paint-on-overlay --backend glx --shadow-exclude "! name~=''" -b --use-ewmh-active-win --glx-no-stencilOffline
Amazing, it seems to work ! Thank you for your help stqn.
I just have a little question if I choosed compiz it s for there plugin they have, called "scale" that whenever yout put your mouse on a corner its shows all the windows that you have on the current screen. A bit like Mac OS X. I am not a fanatic of Alt TAB to switch windows, and I really find convenient this plugin.
Do you know if it would be possibile such a thing on LXDE openbox with compton ?

Glad it’s working, but sorry, I don’t know if such a thing is possible with openbox.

BTW i found a possible option to scale windows, you have to set up a mousebinding in rc.xml or lxde.xml or key binding and download skyppy-xd-git from the AUR that is exactly what i was looking for in a light version.
