Hi haagch,
the lovefilm bug is already closed/fixed in the Ubuntu version of Pipelight and wine-compholio, but as far as I know anish hasn't updated the AUR yet. It will take a couple of hours until the changes are included there too.
If you tried to compile everything yourself, you have to ensure that:
you recompile wine with the following new and updated patches (please note that the numbering has changed due to some improvements):
http://fds-team.de/cms/articles/2013-08 … ection_4_3
of course that you are using the latest Pipelight version, your git commit is the latest one.
install the mpg2splt.ax library
If you've ensured that step 1 and 2 is correct, you still have to do the last step manually (put in the path to /bin/wine):
wget http://download.microsoft.com/download/8/0/D/80D7E79D-C0E4-415A-BCCA-E229EAFE2679/dshow_nt.cab
cabextract -d "$HOME/.wine-pipelight/drive_c/windows/system32" "dshow_nt.cab" -F "mpg2splt.ax"
WINEPREFIX=~/.wine-pipelight/ WINEARCH=win32 path/to/bin/wine regsvr32.exe "mpg2splt.ax"
or alternatively use the following (not-yet-released) install-dependency script, which doesn't require the Ubuntu dependencies.
http://ix.io/7Up (md5sum = 7ecb1818b1fa1d0488adc5d78d0c9b06)
If you experience additional problems you can also join #pipelight on IRC freenode to discuss these issues, but we have confirmed it to work with the german lovefilm.de page:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/214 … elight.png
It's rather inconvenient that everything from the liferea browser to spotify loads the plugin. Isn't there a possibility to maybe only do the initialization when silverlight is requested on a website?
Its not possible to enable it only for specific pages (afaik there is no easy way to do this), but you don't have to install it globally. I recommend to use the tricks described here
https://answers.launchpad.net/pipelight/+faq/2362
to enable it only for example in one specific firefox instance.
Sebastian
EDIT: Replaced ~ with $HOME

Wow, you're quick.
wget http://download.microsoft.com/download/8/0/D/80D7E79D-C0E4-415A-BCCA-E229EAFE2679/dshow_nt.cab cabextract -d "~/.wine-pipelight/drive_c/windows/system32" "dshow_nt.cab" -F "mpg2splt.ax" WINEPREFIX=~/.wine-pipelight/ WINEARCH=win32 path/to/bin/wine regsvr32.exe "mpg2splt.ax"
That was missing, thanks. By the way, ~ doesn't expand when in double quotes.
It's crashing now, but this might be because I use wine-compholio compiled for ubuntu saucy. I'll try it with compiling wine for archlinux later.

It is crashing because you're using an old config which has winegstreamer enabled. This library is broken (since more than a year, but still included in wine) and crashes when trying to load.
Update this entry in your config:
wineDLLOverrides = mscoree,mshtml,winegstreamer=
Or disable it either with "winecfg" / set WINEDLLOVERRIDES="winegstreamer=".

It works for me, but only on this test site (for example on Silverlight DRM Test I have 'Media State: Opening' forever. I think it's DRM related, so I tried to delete drive_c/users/Public/Application Data/Microsoft/PlayReady/ and, according to Gentoo Wiki, I added user_xattr option to /etc/fstab (kernel 3.11.0 from [testing]). Still no success. Any suggestions?

Hi,
do NOT test with this Silverlight DRM test, this one is known not to work with Silverlight 5.1. You'll have to downgrade to 5.0 to get this running, but this shouldn't be necessary for most streaming providers (only exception I know so far is SkyGo).
Other possible errors:
It is necessary to compile wine with XATTR support (you can check with config.log | grep XATTR) and your filesystem should also support XATTR.
You didn't include all the wine-patches, some of them are required to get DRM working.
If this still doesn't help please give some more detailed information, like for example if you compiled it yourself / you're using the AUR. Moreover the terminal output often helps to figure out what the problem is, so just post a link to that.

1. I use AUR: pipelight, wine-silverlight (and netflix-desktop - which used to work for me before v.0.8.5).
2. Filesystem - all partitions ext4 and, as I mentioned before, with user_xattr option in /etc/fstab.
3. I've tried three polish VOD services (unfortunately probably restricted to polish IPs):
VOD 1 - I hear sound for few seconds.
terminal output
I hope it's anywise useful.

Hi wroobel,
the following messages look very suspicious:
fixme:winsock:WSAIoctl -> SIO_ADDRESS_LIST_CHANGE request: stub
By taking a look at the patch included in wine-silverlight:
https://github.com/anish/archlinux/blob … tify.patch
this suggests that you either are not using wine-silverlight, or haven't configured everything correctly to use the latest version.
These patches are really necessary to get especially the embedding the browser and DRM stuff working!
I recommend to do a manual update on especially the wine-silverlight package.
If this doesn't help feel free to come in the IRC channel #pipelight on freenode, there are always some developers around who might help you.

Thank You Sebastian, I've just recompiled wine-silverlight (strange, because I didn't change anything in PKGBUILD) and now vod.pl (site #2) just works. But on the other two I can watch only advertisements before movies/tv shows. I know, I shouldn't complain... However, before I alternatively move on IRC, could You take a look at: terminal output and terminal output?

Hi wroobel,
the second terminal output doesn't contain that much useful information, but the first one does:
err:ole:CoGetClassObject class {afb6c280-2c41-11d3-8a60-0000f81e0e4a} not registered
err:ole:CoGetClassObject no class object {afb6c280-2c41-11d3-8a60-0000f81e0e4a} could be created for context 0x1
This error message is related to a missing file
mpg2splt.ax
wich normally should be installed when you're using the latest AUR version of
pipelight (1-16), wine-silverlight (1.7.2-1)
and
wine-browser-installer (1-7)
(see here).
Can you please check again which versions you are using exactly and try to update them all? Not sure if your package manager does detect this correctly.
If you're using a self compiled version and want to do the installation of mpg2splt.ax manually you can also look in this earlier post by me.
(NOTE: we're moving fast forward with our project and thus have a lot of updates both of pipelight and the wine-patches, probably you're still missing more of them? They have been extended multiple times, we're currently using 16 patches, see here for a complete list.)
Sebastian
EDIT:
Just forgot to mention one additional possible error: Anishs install-dependency script really check that good if previous installation attempts were successful, so probably thats why the reason that only one part is installed. In this case you can try to:
rm -rf ~/.wine-pipelight/
to run a full installation on the next browser start again.

afb6c280-2c41-11d3-8a60-0000f81e0e4a is the value of CLSID_MPEG2Demultiplexer, so I guess that this object is required, but does not exist in your wine. As a result, the video cannot be played.
Edit: Answer is already there in the post above.

I really appreciate Your patience... I removed every package, directory, config file related to pipelight, wine-silverlight, etc. and start from scratch with simple:
yaourt -S pipelight
Thus, the last attempt: http://pastebin.com/XG3JQD0m.

Hi wrobbel,
unfortunately the last debug output doesn't contain the exact reason why it still doesn't work. It might be caused by the following problems (sorted by likeliness):
It might be possible that the page you're trying to use works better with Silverlight 5.0 - we don't know yet why there is sometimes a difference, but for example SkyGo also only works with Silverlight 5.0 and doesn't show anything with 5.1. Unfortunately anish hasn't included my latest version of the dependency-installer yet, but you can use the following commands to get the latest version and install Silverlight 5.0 (please check the path where install-dependency-pipelight is located):
sudo wget -O /usr/share/wine-silverlight/install-dependency-pipelight https://bitbucket.org/mmueller2012/pipelight/raw/682e90a89468afe9bf515599a7ae6f3baf5973dd/misc/install-dependency
cp /usr/share/pipelight/pipelight $HOME/.config/
Then open $HOME/.config/pipelight and modify these two values:
dllPath = c:\Program Files\Silverlight\5.0.61118.0\
silverlightVersion = silverlight5.0
This should install Silverlight5.0 on the next browser restart.
Your version of wine doesn't support XATTR or you have disabled it for your local harddrive. Unfortunately there isn't a good way to check it for wine so far - the only possibility is to recompile and check during the compilation:
cat config.log | grep XATTR
To check if XATTR is enabled for your file system execute:
xattr_test="$HOME/.wine-pipelight/"; setfattr -n 'user.testAttr' -v 'attribute value' $xattr_test &> /dev/null; getfattr $xattr_test 2>&1 | grep -q user.testAttr && echo 'It works!' || echo 'No workie!'
We had some bug fixes in the pipelight upstream version recently, which were related to handle manager errors - probably these solve also your problem - unfortunately you would have to recompile it yourself or wait for the next release (shouldn't take that long).
If it is none of the errors above, the page you're trying to use probably really requires certified graphic card drivers. We don't know if such pages really exist, but this is one of the possible DRM protections, which doesn't have any workaround yet.
If you need help for these steps above - you're still welcome in #pipelight on IRC freenode. There are always at least a few developers (also on the weekend) that might help you in case you have questions.

What am I doing wrong?
EDIT:
That's odd, redid the 3 steps, and it worked:
[roberth@Magda ~]$ WINEPREFIX=~/.wine-pipelight/ WINEARCH=win32 /opt/wine-compholio/bin/wine regsvr32.exe "mpg2splt.ax"
Successfully registered DLL mpg2splt.ax
But pipelight still doesn't work for me either in firefox or chromium.

Not 100% sure if this is the reason, but you're typing
"~/.wine-pipelight/drive_c/windows/system32"
instead of
"$HOME/.wine-pipelight/drive_c/windows/system32".
Some shells don't parse the "~" inside quotes. Please try the other method.
If this doesn't help check if the file was really extracted to the correct path.

Tried with $HOME also.
But still doesnt work, this is what firefox says about the plugin:
Error during initialization: pipelighterror
If this doesn't help check if the file was really extracted to the correct path.
What folders do I need to check then?

Please go to the following page for some diagnostic output:
This sometimes helps to figure out where the error is exactly in your configuration.
If everything is configured correctly - firefox has the disadvantage that the plugin cache saves previous errors. To clear the plugin cache use these instructions:
Type "about:support" in your address line and hit enter. You should now see a button which opens your profile directory. Click on it and remove the "pluginreg.dat" file in this directory. Restart your browser and check if it works now.

You should get a much more detailed debug output when Silverlight doesn't work.
It seems like firefox doesn't execute the Pipelight plugin at all - can you please test again with Chrome (and run the plugin if you get asked)?
BTW: The page seems to work, as you can see on this screenshot.

In chromium:

Chromium asks for a plugin when trying to the play the sample. Also netflix can't a plugin.
How do I give a detailed debug on this?

Normally you don't have to configure anything, but just go to the diagnostic page.
In case you're using a self compiled version / modified the config:
Did you manually disable the debugging features in your config file (config entry diagnosticMode) or don't have any config file installed at all? If you compiled it yourself and you're not using "make install" you probably skipped this step - its sufficient to install the config for example in $HOME/.config/pipelight or specify the environment variable PIPELIGHT_CONFIG.
When you're using anishs AUR:
did you try to update all packages (see my previous post)? Anish had some bugs in one of his scripts some time ago, but they should be fixed.
An alternative method to get debug output is the following: Close all your browser windows, then run your browser from a terminal.
Please post the output you get there (especially what is related to pipelight).
If you want some faster help than via this forum you can also join #pipelight.

Okay problem solved, I just had to use wine-silverlight it seems. For anyone who wonders.

I just wanted to say thank you to the developers for this - seems to work well for both Netflix and Lovefilm.

Sorry for bumping an old thread but I think this is probably the best place to ask - is this working for people with Amazon's new "Prime Instant Video" (i.e. rebranded Lovefilm Instant)?
This is still working great for me with Netflix but for Amazon Prime Instant Video I'm getting "Service Error (1002)" when I try to play a video (using Chromium, which used to work for Lovefilm Instant).
