New Hardware for Full-Virtualization

Hi,

To my issue:
I want to be able to use Windows for gaming. But since i dont  like dualboot, wine does not give the full support I`d like and I want to have a Linux Machine I though about Virtualization with VGA-Passthrough.

Unfortunatly my old CPU doesnt have VT-d or AMD-Vi so i will need new Hardware.
Currently I`m not sure whether to buy Intel (Xeon E3-1245) or AMD (FX-8350). The Intel option would be more expensive, but with the AMD version I`d need a second dedicated GPU for the Linux Desktop. Any thoughts on that?

Also I`d like to know whether it is possible to provide shared access to some Resources of the Host, ie Mouse & Keyboard (am i able to switch between both machines?), Soundcard and the USB-Controller.

Any help is greatly appreciated

Have you considered a Core i5 in place of the Xeon? An Intel Core i5-4570 would be similar in price to AMD's FX-8350.

Please ensure that this thread does not devolve into a product recommendation thread.  For now, I perceive it as a comparison of the different processor architectures.

EDIT:  BTW, it is better to use the report function for move requests.  The moderators will notice the request much faster that way.

If it's about hardware, the thread alphaniner linked basically comes down to "it's all about the board". For example, my mainboard, the AsRock 990fx extreme4 has a strange marvell sata controller that doesn't work with iommu for some reason, other people need to pass special kernel parameters to work around some definition table, and so on. There are however different issues with different graphics cards, for example the integrated intel ones (I ignored most of the posts, because I don't use them) or nvidia cards with the proprietary driver on the host.
Reading through the thread is a good idea anyways, because you'll have to do it sonner or later when setting this up.

Thanks for the replies, i will read through the Thread you linked, maybe it will help with the decision.
