Problems loading fglrx in new catalyst and rollback not fixing it!

Hi everybody!

Got AMD 7970m with an intel card in a PowerXpress setup on a laptop here.

I have been using catalyst with catalyst-utils-pxp with great success, playing games on steam with maxed video quality and enjoying a good fps.

This morning I did a pacman -Syu and after I rebooted, startx said fglrx module did not exist. Sure enough the module could not be modprobed. Generating a new one with catalyst-hook made startx say "deleted screen 1. no devices matching config" or something in that way.

So I've tried alot of things that I've found; all the options in the catalyst wiki page, all the appropriate forum threads I've found, etc. but it usually ends up just like above.

The one thing I thought for sure would work was downgrading catalyst to 13.6 along with the appropriate kernel and xorg versions. Doing this allows me to startx with openbox and chrome but if I try to start a game, steam complains "Could not find required OpenGL entry point 'glGetError'! Either your video card is unsupported, or your OpenGL driver needs to be updated.", so it does seem to still be faulty.

I can't come up with any new things to try. Does anyone know what could cause this?

I'll run through all the standard procedures some more, read the same forum threads and wiki entries again, and see if there could be anything I could've missed...

but please, give me any suggestion! I'll try anything smile

current Xorg.0.log (with xorg 1.13.4-1 and catalyst 13.6):

current xorg.conf (with above versions ofc):

I will reinstall the new kernel and packages from violos repo again so I can paste the logs from those errors too.

I did have some problems installing the bleeding edge beta, but if I can manage to get it installed I will paste it too.

Best regards,
moth

Re: Problems loading fglrx in new catalyst and rollback not fixing it!

Solution:

Downgrade xf86-video intel

Read it before but somehow neglected to do it. With a peaceful and rested mind, I looked through my options again and found it. Worked like a charm.

Now to add it to the package ignore list like I ought to have long ago.
