Re: [SOLVED] Error message after kernel update

@Xyne: I believe in a case like this, those statements add a little bit
of information in as to how many users are affected which might hint at
the source of the problem.

Speaking for myself, I always find it reassuring to know that I am not the
only one affected by some bug/error/...

Aton, if you searched for the error message, you would know you're not the only one: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=1321826

Re: [SOLVED] Error message after kernel update

The problem with this Fedora bug report is that the error was with kernel 3.10 and was first reported on 16/05/2013. A possible solution was to install the new kernel 3.11. Here we have a similar problem, but it is precisely the kernel 3.11, since the 3:10 showed no problems.

Re: [SOLVED] Error message after kernel update

@karol: I did a search for that error message which is how I found this thread :-)
Besides, the title of the thread you mentioned (overheating which I haven't experienced so far) AND the fact that it is from the [testing] forum probably made me ignore it ;-)

Re: [SOLVED] Error message after kernel update

Kernels usually go through [testing], so if some issue hasn't been reported and fixed it's bound to affect people using the non-testing repos when the kernel gets moved from [testing] to [core].

@Leduck
I'm not familiar with the differences between Fedora and Arch kernels, but https://plus.google.com/108835838778444 … ucpUpd2GgX

Deepak Dasgupta wrote:

Hello, After the upgrade to kernel 3.10 I get this error during boot
pci_hp_register failed with error 16. The booting completes but did anyone face same issue ?

led me to believe that might the same bug some people are experiencing here. There's also e.g. https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=996270

Re: [SOLVED] Error message after kernel update

@Aton
The forum is not the bug tracker. Casting votes on the bug tracker makes sense as it can help devs prioritize bugs that affect many people. On the forum, empty posts just force everyone to scroll further and load more pages when they're trying to find relevant information. If you had provided information about your system and/or other potentially relevant information then it would be different, but a simple "Same here" does not add anything of value to the thread (aside from the warm, fuzzy feeling of knowing that you are not alone).

It is not the number of people affected that will guide someone to the solution, but rather knowledge of common factors, such as system architecture/processor, attached PCI devices, etc.

Re: [SOLVED] Error message after kernel update

Something in common… Is this happening also on devices without ExpressCard slot? (desktop example would nicely abolish this)
And if any ExpressCard now works with 3.11? (I don't have any to check, make sure that it isn't using just USB with lspci/lsusb)

Also greping eg¹ 0000:00:1c.3  from dmesg on both 3.11 and 3.10 may give some more interesting results
¹taken from first post, obviously it will be different on your device
