[Solved] NVIDIA - Unable to start x after upgrading kernel+driver

Unfortunately, I can't seem to get it working after downgrading each package, either.

Upon running `startx`, the screen goes dark for a moment, then comes back into the console with this towards the end of the output:

Loading extension GLX
Loading extension NV-GLX
Loading extension NV-CONTROL
Loading extension XINERAMA
xinit: connection to X server lost

waiting for X server to shut down (EE) Server terminated successfully (0). Closing log file.

Here's /var/log/Xorg.0.log:

I generated a fresh x config with nvidia-xconfig and it did not help things.

Earlier today, when I tried to startx, I got the "red screen of death" and I updated grub according to the wiki's advice, which got me to where I am now. After downgrading the kernel and the driver to no avail, I went ahead and upgraded them to the latest version again. Also of note is that I set up lirc last night, but I have since disabled the service and unplugged the dongle while I sort out these problems. Any suggestions?

Re: [Solved] NVIDIA - Unable to start x after upgrading kernel+driver

Did you reboot after updating?

Re: [Solved] NVIDIA - Unable to start x after upgrading kernel+driver

Yes. Also, here's my xinitrc:

#!/bin/sh
export GTK_IM_MODULE='uim'
export QT_IM_MODULE='uim'
export XDG_CONFIG_HOME='/home/sircmpwn/.config'
# Start a D-Bus session
source /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d/30-dbus
export EDITOR=vim
export TERMINAL=terminator
exec volumeicon &
exec dunst &
exec xcompmgr -c &
#exec awesome
exec i3

Re: [Solved] NVIDIA - Unable to start x after upgrading kernel+driver

Solved it by changing reworking my xinitrc:

#!/bin/sh
export EDITOR=vim
export TERMINAL=terminator
exec volumeicon &
exec dunst &
exec xcompmgr &
exec i3

Re: [Solved] NVIDIA - Unable to start x after upgrading kernel+driver

Setting your editor in .xinitrc is a curious idea. Why not use .bashrc for that?
You never use the tty?

Re: [Solved] NVIDIA - Unable to start x after upgrading kernel+driver

I should use .bashrc for that. I don't remember why I did that they way I did.
