Archlinux and DDC (ddccontrol). Is there a working solution?

Hi there,

i bought a new Monitor the last days. Samsung SyncMaster P2450, very nice so far.
Anyway i red about the DDC Protocol, which allows to configure the Monitor On-Screen Settings from the Computer. 

On Linux i found only one tool called "ddccontrol" (http://ddccontrol.sourceforge.net/) but it wasnt updated a long time ago, i can hardly imagine that it works with recent kernel and graphic-drivers (in my case prop. NVIDIA).
i compiled it, load the i2c-dev in the kernel and the tool found nothing
It says : "Error, cannot find any DDC/I2C bus."

i stopped testing at this point cause lack of knowledge and decided to search for peoples who knows what to do here. so is there anyone out there, who had this or a similar ddc-tool running on (arch)linux?

iam btw. wondering why there is so low discussion about this ddc-topic in the net, for me its highly interesting to easy change settings like brightness etc. i would love to use different settings for movie, game, internet, text, console etc.

in case you still have it: for some monitors apparently need to select DDC/CI from the menu (analog | digital | ddc/ci)

i just found that information and hope it’ll work for my screen at home. i hate casting a blinding light onto my girlfriend when she’s trying to sleep, and the black buttons with their black captions on the black screen case aren’t too usable at night.
