Package Announcements Feed?

I was wondering, looking at the way the front page is set up, if there might be a feed for new package announcements it would be possible to syndicate to a feed reader. It would be sweet to get package announcements straight to the desktop.
If there is and I've missed the blazingly obvious link to it, I apologise wink

That's a brilliant idea.

Re: Package Announcements Feed?

I filed a bug report for that like 4 months ago.

But considering people purposely ignore me, go for it. wink

Re: Package Announcements Feed?

There is now a really really official script (announced on the front page) here: http://archlinux.org/rdf_feed.php

Re: Package Announcements Feed?

Wow, on the front page even!  big_smile Thanks a lot all for your speedy help, my desktop is much improved, I'll post soon to the screenshots thread when I get a few things ironed out. Just wanted to say how impressed I am by the speedy response, in this case and with Arch generally. I'm certainly going to try and contribute more to this community. Enough arse kissing, but I am very chuffed! cheers!

Re: Package Announcements Feed?

Great... extra feature for my site smile

Thought i have a couple of questions;

Is there a way to take the Date and Time _out_ of the package line??

I mean, if im seeing the last 5 pkgs in 24 hours in my rdf box, is kind obvious when was released... is there any other use im not seeing??

Also, just to be a bit more  , it would be great to have an Arch logo in the rdf feed (you have the option to enable the image in your rdf reader)... just like Slashdot`s or Distrowatch`s ones...

Re: Package Announcements Feed?

rdf has no special field for date, so us splitting it out would make it just a list of packages.  They're not updated in the last 24 hours, they're the last 10 updates.  They could, conceivable span more than 24 hours...

Re: Package Announcements Feed?

Well... judging by how many packages I had to update between yesterday and today, that doesn't seem likely.  wink

mmm... i dont know what to think about this, as i found out today that the rdf was modified and now the date and time dont appear and i have a logo at my feed smile

Anyway, what i meant was that it was kind of useless having the date and time the pkg was published as usually in a rdf feed you wont have more than a list of the last 10 items (maybe more, maybe less), so although the pkg wasnt published necesarily on the last 24 hours, its pretty recent and one usually know in what day lives... usually lol

Again, great job and thanks for the quick answer... big_smile

Oh yeah! Shame it makes my extra wide gdesklet display pointless, but I agree its easier to read. Good work - whoever did that.

Re: Package Announcements Feed?

I had been using a Moz/Fire|bird|fox extension called Aggreg8 under Windows.  Works very well under Windows, but unfortunately there are permissions issues under Linux.  I got it installed, but I couldn't get it to save my feeds.  So I switched to Bloglines, which has a couple of advantages for me.  One, nothing to install!  big_smile   Two, I can access it from either OS or any other computer and pick up from wherever I left off without having to browse through items I've already read (it's web-based).  In that respect, it has similar advantages to IMAP.  You're "always in sync."

Disadvantages:  well, you have to register with a valid email address.  But that's about it, I think.  There was a brief period of slowness a few days ago while they updated some hardware.  Over the long haul, I'm not sure how they're going to keep offering this for free, but I guess that's for them to worry about.

It's here, if anyone's interested: http://www.bloglines.com/

Anyway, I added Arch's package update feed ... much obliged!

Re: Package Announcements Feed?

Hi all,

This may be somewhat OT, but bare with me please.

I'd love to have a similar tool as in ubuntu for example, where the package announcements are compared to your installed packages and there's "upgrades available" icon on the task bar.

Is there such a tool, and if not, could it be possible to have one for arch?
