I have just read that 2.6.15 was released. Furthermore, this kernel would demand udev 071. While we use current/udev 068, but the new kernel is already available (damn fast, Judd), I wonder if I have to install testing/udev 079 to run the new kernel?
I will try it at home, and hopefully it solves my sata-dvd-issues.
Have a nice day.

It runs damn fast too.

I read it should, Gullible Jones. Do you use it then, with extra updates from testing/unstable?

Moo-Crumpus: I use all the updates from Testing branch.

No changes in "depends" section. Maybe Judd forgot the udev changes or it´s still working fine with old udev 068.

Gottcha.
commit ad7e14a55ed7648d02a4df8e460e291d80a18c98
Author: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@suse.de>
Date: Thu Oct 27 22:25:43 2005 -0700[PATCH] update required version of udev
The 071 release is needed to handle the input changes. Older versions
will work properly with module-based systems, but not for users that
build input stuff into the kernel.

Therefore, the modular community kernel will work. Users who build their own kernels will have to use testing/udev, if they don't use modules for the "input stuff".

Works fine here (always roll my own kernel)
The suggestion box only accepts patches.

Does anyone know if 2.6.15 contains an up-to-date version of the ipw2200 driver?

The kernel boots much faster! Don't know if it's because of the new udev or the new kernel or both! But it boots in 8 seconds VS the 17 with kernel26archck and bootsplash.
Other then that I rebuild my initrd image. But this boot up rocks.
I get a "new" message at bootup, its displaying more information when setting up the network interface. Is this from the new kernel or the new udev?
I would post the messages but I don't know what log file it would be in...I checked messages.log and it's not in there. Also checked kernel.log and its not there either.

My Dvd-Rom works with the new kernel. Before the new kernel, it hasn't worked.

Just compiled my own kernel26ck (my own PKGBUILD). Worked like a charm. Had some issues with NVIDIA, but I fetched the new -3 package from the testing tree and everything worked.
The main reason why I've been waiting for this release is the libata update. Yea, I know that I could have applied patches before.. but now it's in the vanilla kernel
It's so good to have S.M.A.R.T. finally work with my SATA Maxtor drive. And.. don't forget the coolness factor of the additional HDD Temp gauge in my Superkaramba theme..

The new kernel is compiled with -Os by default, instead of -O2. This makes the vmlinuz26 and all the modules smaller.
And a bunch of other improvements ofcourse .
