Is anyone else doing tests with the linux mainline kernel 3.12?
I have an Nvidia graphics based laptop that crashes hard with kernel 3.12-rc3 (and did with rc1 and rc2 as well).
I have filed a bug at https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=69982 where the details are.
I would be interested to know if anyone else is testing this kernel and has graphics crashes with 3.12, and if anyone has a workaround or fix - it may need fixes upstream of course but it would be useful to have additional information.
[Added note - using the suggestion in the bug report to add nouveau.config=NvMSI=0 to the kernel boot line gives a working system]

I have put in place a temporary workaround until there is a fix in the nouveau code upstream. I made a file /etc/modprobe.d/nouveau.conf containing one line:
option nouveau config:NvMSI=0
Now the 3.12 rc3 kernel boots and there is no system crash.

With the release of kernel 3.12-rc5 yesterday my machine now runs stable again - the patch in rc5 that fixed the issue (at least for the moment unless msi is switched on again by default and the msi bugs aren't fixed) is:
Ben Skeggs (1):
drm/nouveau/mc: disable msi support by default, it's busted in
tons of places
Lots of problems until now with 3.12-rcX with the nouveau driver for Nvidia graphics cards. I will continue to test as new kernel release candidates emerge.
