For some reason, whenever I recieve a Skype message and the notification sound plays, VLC (since I upgraded it to 2.1) will mute the video (as well as sometimes pausing it). I haven't been able to find a reason via a google search this would be happening. Any suggestions on how to disable this (frankly insanely irritating and inconvenient) behavior?
I am running both on XFCE with Pulseaudio as the only thing I can think of in common between them, but the behavior persists if I change VLC to use the ALSA output module.

This is a Skype "feature" I believe.

...that is the stupidest thing if true. Not sure why it'd start with VLC 2.1. Any way to block the means it uses to communicate with VLC? I had to switch to using SMPlayer to watch a video at the same time as someone else while commenting on it over Skype, and it tends to desynchronize after a few dozen minutes for me.

I did for about thirty or so minutes with no luck. Any suggestions on search terms?
EDIT: Eventually found it, it's a Pulseaudio issue in general, not just Skype. https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Sk … nd_sources
Missed it on my first perusal of the Skype page since it was only affecting a new version of VLC for me. The modification to default.pa stopped it for me.
