Asus Xonar Phoebus as HDA

Hello everyone,

I have a Xonar Phoebus from Asus which i used on Windows and i want to work under Arch now. I use Alsa/Pulse, but ALSA doesn't support the CMI8888 chip on the soundcard. But, I know that the card works without all the extras and without the drivers under Windows. It is recognizes as an HDA device there. As far as i know these basic devices should work under ALSA right?

lspci outputs:
08:00.0 Audio device: C-Media Electronics Inc CM8888 [Oxygen Express]

Forgot to say, alsamixer doesn't list the device at all.

so far so good. Has someone a suggestion what to do next ?

Re: Asus Xonar Phoebus as HDA

Read trough this on the alsa-user mailing list: http://www.spinics.net/linux/fedora/als … 11331.html
It seems it is possible to get it recognized and to play "some" audio, but it is far from a usable state. I have the same problem, and for now have to use the onboard sound device when using linux.

Alsa page regarding Asus Sound Cards:
