After having upgraded a lot of packages, I figured out that Synapse is no longer working. It gives me the following output when trying to start it from shell :

There is obviously something wrong with the new glib2 version.
In my case IBM Rational Developer for Power Systems Software stopped working (it was crashing).
I downgraded glib2 pango gdk-pixbuf2 atk librsvg gtk2 and it helped,
but I feel that there are more packages, dependent on new glib2, that needs to be downgraded too.

At least in my case it helped to remove the dekstop entry for gnome's weather app from /usr/share/applications to bring synapse back to work. Don't know what wrong with that desktop entry. People at Suse have a similar problem (http://web.archiveorange.com/archive/v/ … YqAEh0yuaA)

Thank you for your replies. I can confirm that removing gnome-weather app "solves" the issue even with the very latest updates. It seems in fact to be the line DBusActivatable=true in the .desktop entry that causes this bug as it is explained on http://web.archiveorange.com/archive/v/ … YqAEh0yuaA.
