Gnome Music 3.10 not working properly

Hi all,

I'm having trouble getting the freshly installed Gnome Music application to work. When I start it from the console it outputs:

(gnome-music:1746): Grilo-WARNING **: [upnp] grl-upnp.c:342: Failed to execute GetSearchCaps operation

(gnome-music:1746): Grilo-WARNING **: [upnp] grl-upnp.c:344: Reason: Access denied

(gnome-music:1746): Grilo-WARNING **: [upnp] grl-upnp.c:342: Failed to execute GetSearchCaps operation

(gnome-music:1746): Grilo-WARNING **: [upnp] grl-upnp.c:344: Reason: Access denied

Gnome Music meanwhile starts up and displays "No Music found" as well as "Put some files in the folder None".

Does anyone have an idea how to solve this problem? Thanks in advance for any help.

Have you tried deleting tracker db https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/37246 ?

Is $XDG_MUSIC_DIR set to the right path? Check in ~/.config/user-dirs.dirs

It wasn't. Interestingly enough ~/.config/user-dirs.dirs didn't even exist. I created that and set the right path, with the effect of Gnome Music now telling me to put some music in that folder although it clearly is there (the music, that is).

The error messages in the console remain unchanged, even after deleting tracker data like karol suggested. And oh, the first line that's printed to the console after invoking gnome-music is:

Detected new source available: 'Tracker' and it supports search

Thanks anyway to both of you for your effort so far.

Re: Gnome Music 3.10 not working properly

I realize this is a somewhat old thread, but I ran into the exact same problem and would like to post what I did to solve it, step by step.

The problem was related to the fact that the tracker miners (see "man -k tracker" for more information) were not actually going through the Music folder. This is because, as Pse noted above, XDG_MUSIC_DIR was not set properly, since the ~/.config/user-dirs.dirs files did not exist, to fix this, I installed xdg-user-dirs, and ran

xdg-user-dirs-update

which created the ~/.config/user-dirs.dirs file.

At this point, I reloaded the tracker database by running

tracker-control -e
tracker-control --start

(the process of the tracker can then be monitored using "tracker-control -F"). After that gnome-music worked fine.

What I don't understand is why the package gnome-music doesn't depend on xdg-user-dirs.

Comment: I would just like to mention the option /org/freedesktop/Tracker/Miner/Files in gsettings, which should allow to set extra directories for the miners to mine in.

Re: Gnome Music 3.10 not working properly

bumping this because I spent the better part of a day recently futzing with the tracker preferences GUI reindexing things unable to figure out why gnome music wouldn't work for a non-default music directory without figuring out that changing one line in ~/.config/user-dirs.dirs would do the trick (I didn't even have to re-index afterwards). thank you!
