Whats up fellow Arch users, I have been running Arch linux for awhile now and everything has been great, until yesterday when I did a pacman -Syu and tried to migrate to udev. The problem is, I was mounting my external hard drive on /dev/sda1 ... but now there is no /dev/sda1 so when I try to mount it, I get this:
# mount /mnt/usbdrive
mount: special device /dev/sda1 does not exist
I had a soundcard problem after this recent pacman -Syu, but that was because hotplug was removed and I had to include the soundcard module in the /etc/rc.conf... no big deal with that issue. I followed the wiki for the udev migration and the computer boots up and runs fine, I just can't get the usbdrive to mount. sda1 is just not showing up ???
Has anyone had this problem or have any advice?

sounds like you don't have the proper modules loaded up. Have you tried using MOD_AUTLOAD in /etc/rc.conf or hwd (lshwd) as a replacement to hotplug?

thanks man, lshwd worked. I just put the MOD_AUTOLOAD="yes" in my /etc/rc.conf. works like a charm.

MOD_AUTOLOAD is using hwdetect to load the devices...lshw (hwd) is another form of autodetection that runs as a daemon during boot-up. They're not the same.

I used MOD_AUTOLOAD, not lshwd. Thanks again.
