I can't make my printer work (Arch 0.7.1, Kernel 2.6.14, parallel printer, HP Deskjet710C).
I have followed the CUPS setup routine in the wiki, and installed cups, loaded the modules parport and parport_pc.
In the localhost interface I chose Parallel port (HP Deskjet 710C)
and in the model/driver part: HP Deskjet 710C Foomatic/pnm2ppa, which I believe is recommended.
Message: "Printer Deskjet has been added successfully". On the next page it is said to be on Device URI: parallel:/dev/lp0
But if I try to print a test page, or anything else, it is listed as "aborted", and nothing happens. If I try to restart job, it says: client-error-not-possible.
Same result if I try to print as root.
If I use the KDE printer interface, it says: "Test page successfully sent to printer Deskjet". Which sounds reassuring enough, but it isn't true. Can someone help me...?
The output from /var/log/cups/error_log is:

I also have the same problem, I thought it was with pnm2ppa so I downloaded it and make && make install and configured /etc/pnm2ppa.conf to version 720 but still the same thing. Did you install pnm2ppa?

People have been having trouble with cups dying to some reason, or not working at all if backgrounded. Have you tried to restart it?
/etc/rc.d/cups restart

I'm not sure what that is but on gentoo this setup fine, I'm guessing its pnm2ppa because its the only package pacman didn't have and I'm guessing I installed it wrong.

pacman wanted to update foomatic with foomatic-db and now it works, go figure. whats the difference between these two packages?
