Hello.
So I recently purchased a Lenovo Y510P which I quite enjoy, running like a champ. But with my current setup, I cannot for whatever reason get sound working. I've enabled and disabled many modules and have tried everything I know of, but I cannot seem to get it to work. Here is a screenshot of what I'm currently working with. Now, I've never really have deal with setting up sound with ALSA or anything before, so excuse me if I'm doing something wrong.
I appreciate the help, thanks!

In the screenshot, alsamixer is showing master with "MM" (for mute). Just press the "m" key and it should unmute.

/dev/zero, I did that but when I play audio I still can't hear anything. When I go into alsamixer, I have to press F6 to select the soundcard, and select HDA Intel PCH, since (default) is HDA Intel MID. Could that be a problem?

Okay, let's do some basic sanity checks. Can you please post output from the commands:
lsmod | grep "snd"
aplay -l
amixer

Here's a pastie of what you ask.

I don't know. Maybe. Have you tried changing the default sound card using the instructions on the Wiki?
Edit:

It looks like everything has been detected and "should" be working, so we can surmise it is just a config problem. Yes, I suggest try changing the default sound card.

Well, if I have two "snd_hda_intel" devices listed under "/proc/asound/modules", how would I specify exactly which should be the default one? I know that you define it default with 0, but how can I tell the difference between the two?

I think the output of aplay -l is telling you everything you need to know, if you follow the so-called Alternative Method. You know that you have card 0 and card 1, you want card 1 to be default, so make the appropriate subsitution in
To set this card as the default, you can either use the system-wide file /etc/asound.conf or the user-specific file ~/.asoundrc. You may have to create the file if it does not exist. Then insert the following options with the corresponding card.
pcm.!default { type hw card 2 } ctl.!default { type hw card 2 }

Ah ha! That looks like it did it. I know this was all simple, but thank you for helping me out!
