xmms permission denied

trying to play cds... i go into xmms preferences- cd audio player - configure...

device = /dev/cdroms/cdrom0
directory = /mnt/cd

... and i click on 'check drive' and it comes up with

Failed to open device /dev/cdroms/cdrom0
Directory /mnt/cd OK

... i've done 'gpasswd -a christian disk'

but that doesn't appear to help... anyone else had this problem or know how to deal with it?

thanks!

Re: xmms permission denied

/dev/cdroms/cdrom0 is the devfs naming scheme. If your kernel is up to date, devfs is gone, so change that to /dev/cdrom.

Re: xmms permission denied

/dev/cdrom gives the same 'permission denied'

if i change it to /dev/cdroms it comes up with :

Failed to read "Table of Contents"
Maybe no disc in the drive?

Directory /mnt/cd OK

...? thanks
