Happy Birthday Noodle!!! With all the changes since the last release, it's sure to make new installations much easier.

isn't it a bit premature to release an ISO after some tricky stuff in testing was moved to stable just days/weeks ago such as hwd and initrd etc. ? was there any rush?

How about every person that tries to install Arch with a 0.7 CD camplaining about something, or getting a non-booting install?

That's a nice one, jcome, allthough I never liked and never will like the name "noodles". Wet and drooping. Let's lop.

I'll be downloading both the base and the full install iso, once its done I'll seed it for a week
I'm on a 3 meg cable line so that should help a bit

I work on ISP, so bandwith is free for me. ;-)
Downloading...... :-)
EDIT: Now I can remove Debian Sarge from my server in second company I am working on. I think I'll remove few Windozes too. ;-)

Wonderful, thanks for your valuable opinion!!
I'm pretty sure the name noodle comes from the now-famous FSM pseudo-religion.

I *think* arch 0.7.1 install cd can't detect external USB cdrom drives.
It boots perfectly but loaddisk can't load my drive.
Anyone else having this issue ?
Discussion goes to CD/FTP install section.

I have been having quite a bit of trouble updating my virgin 0.7 install to 0.7.1 and getting a functionnal up to date system that YES! I am very happy for this release.
I moved to arch a few weeks ago after a long while distro hopping and am finally close to dropping the M-system altogether. Few details need to be fixed, but that should all be easy to take care of.
Thanx to all the arch devs. Great work and thanx!

this is really ironic. Its taken me a month to get used to wombat and managing to upgrade it (got it down to a fine art now!) and you release a noodle ISO! doh!
p.s. I'm not complaining its been a good learning experience!
Offline
But if you upgraded Wombat you ALREADY have Noodle, don't you ?
Offline
yes, jerem. He'd just do "pacman -Syu". Thats it.

Not really, there's been problems since wombat install release -- udev and kernel changes being big ones. Last time I tried to install wombat I couldn't manage to get it up to date.

Is the next release going to be named "soup"?

My old, but fully-updated Arch install was working just fine (exept for the kernel/alsa issue I posted about in the kernel forum) but I wanted to test the new iso release to see how easily it installs.
Well, it worked quite well... just did a fresh ftp install from scratch with the new 0.7.1 base iso and the installation itself went perfectly. Didn't have to look at the handbook at all, and it went without a single problem in about 25 to 30 minutes total. The only issue observed was the same kernel/alsa problem mentioned above.
Great job, Judd & crew! 8)

I just installed arch on my lappy using the new 7.1 CD, and it was awesome. The *only* thing I needed to get off the 'net was ipw2200 to have a functional install, and even then, my NIC was working OOTB.
I'm really enjoying arch! Thanks to all the devs for the enormous amount of work they have put into the distro - it rocks!
