[SOLVED] Peculiar USB problem on VirtualBox

Hi!

I'm having a peculiar trouble getting USB to work on my VirtualBox installation.
All the extensions were correctly installed, user added to the groups, etc.
VirtualBox is running on a Kubuntu system.
The USB-stick filter is enabled and everything seems to work ok, but when I boot the VM, the USB-stick is umounted from Kubuntu, and isn't mounted on Arch.
When I shutdown the VM, the USB-stick immediately reappers on Kubuntu.
Examining the boot log with dmesg, I see that the USB-stick is detected, but there are the warnings that "No Caching mode page found" and "Assuming drive cache: write through" which I can't figure out what the hell could mean...
Finally, there is the message regarding a problem with display-manager.service.
This is the output of dmesg referred above:

[ 2.056481] scsi 3:0:0:0: Direct-Access Kingston DT 101 G2 1.00 PQ: 0 ANSI: 2

[ 2.197791] systemd[1]: Cannot add dependency job for unit display-manager.service, ignoring: Unit display-manager.service failed to load:

Any help?

Re: [SOLVED] Peculiar USB problem on VirtualBox

Well, it was a newbie issue, after all... I was mounting the usb device incorrectly in Arch on the Virtual Machine!

So, it mounts on Arch, but is unmounted on the host system and mounted again when the usb is unchecked on the VM Manager control. I suppose this is normal, i.e., the usb file system couldn't be mounted simultaneously on the host and the guest.

The only question that remains is that regarding the boot messages "No Caching mode page found" "Assuming drive cache: write through" and "Cannot add dependency job for unit display-manager.service, ignoring: Unit display-manager.service failed to load: No such file or directory.".

Thanks, everybody.

Re: [SOLVED] Peculiar USB problem on VirtualBox

From the VirtualBox Manual:

VirtualBox can allow virtual machines to access the USB devices on your host directly. To achieve this, VirtualBox presents the guest operating system with a virtual USB controller. As soon as the guest system starts using a USB device, it will appear as unavailable on the host.

Be careful with USB devices that are currently in use on the host! For example, if you allow your guest to connect to your USB hard disk that is currently mounted on the host, when the guest is activated, it will be disconnected from the host without a proper shutdown. This may cause data loss.

That's it! I'm marking this discussion thread as solved.

Tks.
