Something happened and I cant even seem to find what caused it. I upgraded to gnome 3.10 today since it hit the repos. Now I am unable to boot into gnome. I receive the error message "oh no something has gone wrong a problem has occurred and the system cant recover. All extensions have been disabled" I have removed all the extensions in the gnome-shell directory ? I do not know what might have caused this ? I did notice while upgrading that a new version of xorg server was updated as well ? Maybe this is the problem
I suggested to someone who had downgraded their installation to the point before they updated to GNOME 3.10 to upgrade the kernel and the X server first and then upgrade GNOME. That seemed to work for him.
Claire is fine.
Problems? I have dysgraphia, so clear and concise please.

Yeah I did not do that and for some reason everytime I clear my pkgcache out things like this happen lol. So I do not have the packages to revert to old gnome 3.8 ....

Hey, I'm noticing slow performance in Firefox and Chrome with Youtube videos either windowed or fullscreen with the open-source drivers. VLC doesn't have problems playing videos. I have a Radeon HD 6950.
I've checked the Wiki but haven't come across anything that might help. Any ideas?
this thread is actually for the closed drivers (Catalyst) not for the open source drivers. I believe there's an ongoing thread somewhere for the foss drivers, but I don't know where it is off the top of my head.

I'm having trouble with these drivers.
My graphics card is a Radeon HD 7670M.
I'm using the [catalyst] repo and I've tried both 1.14 Xorg and 1.13 Xorg without success.
I've installed the catalyst_hook and the catalyst-utils-pxp, as well as the lib32-catalyst-utils-pxp.
I can startx only as root but direct rendering is not active.
glxinfo with the LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose returns:
libGL: screen 0 does not appear to be DRI2 capable
libGL: OpenDriver: trying /usr/lib/xorg/modules/dri/tls/swrast_dri.so
libGL: OpenDriver: trying /usr/lib/xorg/modules/dri/swrast_dri.so
libGL: Can't open configuration file /root/.drirc
libGL error: failed to load driver: swrast

Hi, does anyone have any issues running Cinnamon 2.0.2-1? I ask because I am have problems, which can bee seen in this thread, and it appears the problems are restricted to AMD users, but I would like to see if there is anyone that can confirm this.
Many Thanks.

I can confirm this, I had cinnamon up and running until I installed amd catalyst drivers, after that it's not starting up.

The latest catalyst upgrade (I use catalyst-hook from the catalyst repos) 13.11-1 is breaking gnome for me, I get a lot of random crashes, the stupid gnome screen of death or it just freezes and there's nothing I can do about it, it was working fine until yesterday and I haven't installed anything new besides that.
I get random crashes when using the hot corner, clicking on a widget, or when I enable/disable an extension, when I'm browsing files on nautilus, or just out of nowhere.
KDE works just fine, the problems with OpenGL that I had previously are gone after this update.

Thanks for saying that, I guess I'm going to hold back the catalyst update for now

Hi,
gnome-shell 3.10 is not working with legacy catalyst drivers yet. GDM fails to start and am presented with a blank screen. However, it is working fine with open source drivers.
Please help!
Thanks,

Probably, Cinnamon caught this bug from Gnome3 upstream? Seems interesting.

Hmm... I'll look into it, though I am using Catalyst 13.11, not legacy.

Hi all,
after upgrading my whole system, i did reboot my computer, then had to reinstall the catalyst-test package because my kernel was upgraded. So far, so good, except that it give me an error saying that the fglrx module failed to build.

Last night my computer was working fine, but this morning I get these weird lines across the top of my screen and they get worse and worse when I type. here is an example http://a.pomf.se/9Hj1.png (this appears at the top of the screen) One of them will blink like an input cursor.
and my second monitor has a large black bar in the way as an offset so I can't see the full thing. Worst of all I'll randomly get this giant black box to cover about 2/3's of the screen, but it goes away when I move things infront of it, and I cannot seem to make a screenshot of it.
I'm not entirely sure if this is the AMD drivers fault, but I think it is because I was doing something with amdcccle last night, but before I shutdown it was working fine.
My card is a 7870 and I'm using catalyst 13.11-1
edit: never mind, I just fixed it, it was an issue with my lxdm-git. Well looks like I'll never be using any dm again!

I still cannot run gnome-shell 3.10 with legacy catalyst drivers. Did anyone have success?

Okay so apparently, by adding IDs from the legacy common/lib/modules/fglrx/build_mod/fglrxko_pci_ids.h to the latest non legacy driver the non legacy driver might work on older hardware as well. I haven't tested this yet (as I can currently not reboot because I'll lose my REPL session ), but if this is true it would save Vi0L0 a lot of work. Might be worth investigating, plus we could run on newer X11 versions making our systems more secure. And also perhaps Wayland one day! But let's not get our hopes up just yet

Guys! Seems like xvba-video works with Catalyst 13.11! I hope there won't be such a hassle with GPU video rendering anymore.

What you get:
- Bitstream Audio (including DTS-HD, TrueHD, LPCM 7.1)
- mpeg2, mpeg4, h264, vc1 accleration
- Bob deinterlacing via vdpau
- 24 fps Video Playback (AMD and Intel Haswell CPUs)
- XBMC runs with 50% less CPU usage over AMD Catalyst Drivers

It will let you to compile fglrx module successfully but won't let catalyst to startx, because still it will complain about missing adapter.
If you will also copy amdpcsdb.default and control from legacy's /etc/ati (maybe legacy's aticonfig also, but i don't remember) it will let you to generate xorg.conf.
Then I was trying to copy uki and others legacy's libs, but i'm not sure if it was a good idea - it was some time ago but i never found enough time (and will) to finish/figure it out.
Maybe you will?

After some search, I discovered that the file libfglrx_ip.a get extracted into the folder catalyst-test\src\archive_files\arch\x86_64\lib\modules\fglrx\build_mod when building the package, but it doesn't seems to be present in the package file.
Can someone help me to go further?
Does someone know how this is intented to work?
