Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hello everyone!
After a long time with debian and ubuntu, I decide to give a try to Arch a few months ago, just because for desktop I'm tired abou  "the ubuntu linux abstraction" as I call it.
The result is that I'm still using Arch, it's stable, has every module I need, and I intend to use it for a long time.
Today I decide to register in the forum, to know the people that are involved in this great great community work, and help with my experience if its possible!

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hi all,

New user, have been hovering around the forums as a reader for a while. Made the switch about 2 years ago - I now use nothing but Arch for my servers and desktop/laptops. Couldn't using anything other than bleeding-edge/rolling release now, lightweight and up-to-date are a great combination in my opinion.

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

A hello to the lovely community of Arch.
Been using Arch for about two years now.
Have tried most of the major distribution (BSD, Debian, Redhat families, Slackware, Plan 9 and so on...) and many, many derivative before running into Arch, and now I am stuck!
It is a lovely distribution and I would be proud to contribute when ever I have the occasion and the free time.

Well, congratulation for all of you for the best Nix distro I have ever met.

Keep the good work.

I am proud to be a part of this lovely community.

Hello every one~
I'm an SDE at Baidu Inc.~
Also an undergraduate student at Zhejiang University(China) who just graduated from university for a few months, pity that I didn't join this place earlier. There seems a whole world of knowledge about Linux in here. Glad to be here as a newbie.

For several years I've used ubuntu and redhat for some project both in college study & project development, but still a lot to learn. Glad to be here, glad to meet you :-)

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hey guys.

Nothing really to say here that hundreds of others haven't already, but alas, I digress.

This computer I'm on has seen essentially every desktop os out there, and I have to say, it hasn't ever run as smooth as it has since getting archlinux installed.

I was really impressed with the streamlined driver support for nvidia cards. I've had a bitch of a time before installing "linux drivers" for nvidia chipsets on other distros, but this one, couldn't have been easier.

Still working through some kinks, hiccups, and such.

Also still trying to decide on what DE or WM I want to go with. I'm using the latest gnome right now, which is pretty, but not sure it's what I want to settle on just yet. Open to opinions! Just read the rules...

Anyway, that's all she wrote.

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hi All,
Just my saying hi to the Arch Forums from sunny (read: wet) New Zealand!

Just started using Arch having come from being frustrated at Windows (7 - I don't want to upgrade to 8), and having used OSX, Ubuntu, Mint, Elementary and practically every other OS in existence on my little netbook (okay, I'm exaggerating here a little!).  So far I'm loving Arch - it's so easy to use and lets me do what I want, almost.  I've used Arch for a while but not really used the forums much myself, but from what I've read the forums seem to be friendly and helpful places - I feel so useless not knowing answers myself to questions!

Anyway, that's enough of me for now!  I'm sure I'll be asking lots of questions on here in the near future!

 echo Hello World

smile

Cheers,
Fred

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hi everyone!

I started using arch 2 years ago with a asus eeepc 1201ha and got to frustrated with it because of the painful graphics driver madness.

now i have got a thinkpadx230 and it works like a charm.
started to learn a lot about linux by using arch and am more happy with it than every other distribution/os.

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hey everyone,

I installed Arch recently. I'm a student developer and I would like to get involved with some open source projects. I hope I'll find something to contribute to in the Arch community. I'd appreciate any advice or tips.

Thanks,
Tim

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hello, everyone.

I've used ArchLinux for about 2 months (something like 2 or 3 years) ago and had a good time with it.
For some reasons I had to get back to Windows and eventually forgot about Linux for some time, but wanted to give it another try again ^^

I'm installing Arch as soon as my data backup is ready (a few minutes from now).

English is not my first language as well. I'm Brazilian and live in Korea, at the moment.

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hello.

I've dabbled in various Linux distributions over the years always staying a primary Windows user until a few months ago. I decided to pull out my Windows drives and dive in head first once I was comfortable with The Arch Way and had practiced the install process in a VM. I've been on arch for about 2 weeks now and I must say it's been quite fun and I've learned a lot.

I'll share something with the newbies, a script I cooked up to check the pacman log for .pacnew and .pacsave files and output the results. It helped me with my very first encounter with .pacfiles and I hope it will help you too! It may be a bit verbose for some tastes, but you can cut the cruft.

#! /bin/bash
# This script checks your pacman log and outputs any instances of .pacnew or
# .pacsave, to help you find and integrate these files.

echo ""
echo "============================================================"
echo "Checking for pacnew files"
echo "============================================================"

cat /var/log/pacman.log | grep .pacnew

echo "============================================================"
echo "End of pacnew files."
echo "============================================================"

echo ""
echo "============================================================"
echo "Checking for pacsave files"
echo "============================================================"

cat /var/log/pacman.log | grep .pacsave

echo "============================================================"
echo "End of pacsave files"
echo "============================================================"

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hello.
I am living in Tokyo, Japan.  I heard arch linux is a good distribution, so I am now struggling to install arch linux
on iMac with VMWare Fusion.  A problem yesterday is that no file can be eternal after shutdown. May be I forgot mounting.

Well, I have been Cent OS user. I like to study arch linux from today.

Hello World!

My biggest surprise today was that Dolphin ran at 60 FPS without any hiccups, while it stuttered for me under Xubuntu.

I think I'll stay here.

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hi folks!

I had been a Debian user before purchasing a Macbook a couple of years ago. Recently, I was fed up with how hard it is to use OS X as a coding environment. I wanted something simpler. Done, purchased a new notebook, installed arch, never looked back.

Thanks to everybody who puts effort into this community project, eps. the wiki editors.

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hello, everybody~~ :-)
I'm a guy who come from CentOS to Arch, and just finish the install process, and register my arch account.
There's much more words I wanna say here, but it seems no words I can choose to type here.
Maybe we'll meet somewhere else, and chat on other interesting topics. :-)

Beginning to enjoy Arch~~~

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Greetings all,

Well, I was interested in this distribution when I accidentally fscked both of my linux distros (Ubuntu and openSUSE) during a repartitioning, and I wanted to learn more about how the linux system works, so I decided to make this my main distro.
