I've got Arch on my Dell Inspiron 7520. When I boot the system, USB works as advertised. If I suspend & resume while the computer is plugged into AC power, USB still works as advertised. But if I disconnect the AC power and suspend & resume, USB devices stop being detected at all: lsusb shows no difference when plugging any device in (and of course KDE doesn't see new flash drives). Laptop-mode-tools is disabled (even though I'm burning around 20W!), as I thought USB autosuspend might be a culprit; I am using acpid and pm-utils though.
What could the problem be? This is driving me insane!

Do a `lsmod` before and after suspending.

are you running a custom kernel?

Hey, thanks for your replies. I just found time to answer your questions; my apologies for the delay.
jasonwryan, here you go. There are only a couple lines different; in any case, nothing is loaded/unloaded.

labotsirc, nope, totally official. If you're interested:
# pacman -Q linux
linux 3.11.4-1
EDIT: Another interesting behavior I just noticed is that this problem doesn't happen if something (in my case a USB/Serial converter) is plugged into a USB port when doing the suspend/resume.

Solved. At some point I must have switched off USB wakeup in the BIOS. This wasn't a Linux issue at all!
Read #14 on https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour … ug/1094534.
