[SOLVED] Cannot connect to vino-server from Windows anymore

Hi folks,

I upgraded my Arch recently and after that I tried to access the graphical session from RealVNC Viewer (on a Windows machine) just as I've been doing for years.
But I got the following message: "No matching security types"
I then tried with TightVNC but got the same message.
Again with the latest release of UVNC I got "No supported authentication methods!".

On the vino-server side (known as "stilgar-laptop"), I can see the following lines in the logs:

Jun 29 00:03:36 localhost /etc/gdm/Xsession[974]: 29/06/2013 00:03:36 [IPv4] Got connection from client nanawel
Jun 29 00:03:36 localhost /etc/gdm/Xsession[974]: 29/06/2013 00:03:36 other clients:

Jun 29 00:03:36 localhost /etc/gdm/Xsession[974]: 29/06/2013 00:03:36 framebuffer updates 0, rectangles 0, bytes 0

My problem seems to be the same as the one described here, but unfortunately without any solution:
http://unix.stackexchange.com/questions … vnc-client

I tried to search if something had changed recently in vino-server, if a new encryption mechanism had been enabled or something like that, but found nothing.

Any clue?

Re: [SOLVED] Cannot connect to vino-server from Windows anymore

Hi!

Im sorry to revive a couple of months old thread however should anyone else come looking for this particular issue then heres some help,
As you can see your Vino advertises security type 18 which apparently is TLS and according to a user on a mailing list this is widely unsupported by most Windows VNC viewers.

An easy way to solve this is by disabling the encryption alltogether by doing:

gsettings set org.gnome.Vino require-encryption false

Good luck!

Re: [SOLVED] Cannot connect to vino-server from Windows anymore

It works.

Note that this schema (org.gnome.Vino) is not accessible with dconf-editor.

Thanks

After posting I never had a chance to try again, but thanks I'll update the title accordingly.
