How to suspend to ram? (HP Compaq nx 9000)

I have tried many times to suspend to ram and failed.

echo -n "mem" > /sys/power/state

does not work at all with the kernel26archck-2.6.13.archck1-1. When I use it with standard kernel26 it fails to start again. The computer seems to wake up, but the display is blank. I used 'vesa' and 'radeon' drivers and it makes no difference. Any suggestions? I'd really like to be able to suspend to ram with archck kernel.

regards,
mdv

Re: How to suspend to ram? (HP Compaq nx 9000)

You can use swsusp2 to suspend to RAM. The kernel includes the necessary patches, so you just need to install the hibernate script, and change the Powerdown method to 3. You can get the hibernate script here, or better still, add dibble's repo to /etc/pacman.conf:

[dibble]
Server = http://dtw.jiwe.org/share/pkgs/dibble

and get it with pacman.

Thanks for the hint. Hibernate finally works. I used hibernate-scripts from community and archck kernel. The only thing I'd like to have is the possibility to lock kde, which does not work despite I set it in the config file.

Can't help you there, I'm afraid. Have you checked your logs? And dmesg?

Have a look on the website as well - there's howtos, faqs, wikis, lists, etc.

Re: How to suspend to ram? (HP Compaq nx 9000)

Seems that it was a KDE bug. It works now with KDE 3.5.

Re: How to suspend to ram? (HP Compaq nx 9000)

echo -n "mem" > /sys/power/state

's working again here  with the new kernel (2.6.15)
