micro suddenly not really working

After more of 12 years using linux, I am still wondering why the sound architecture in linux so unreliably works.

Since yesterday I am having problems with the micro, which there were not there previosly. The micro of my laptop does not grab any sound... and when it does, then it is really crackly. I don't see any upgrades in the last days which could have been the cause...

I have the following:

lspci|grep Audio
00:14.2 Audio device: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] SBx00 Azalia (Intel HDA)
~ ls -l /dev/snd
total 0
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 60 oct 31 14:03 by-path
crw-rw----+ 1 root audio 116, 6 oct 31 14:03 controlC0
crw-rw----+ 1 root audio 116, 5 oct 31 14:03 hwC0D0
crw-rw----+ 1 root audio 116, 4 oct 31 14:03 hwC0D3
crw-rw----+ 1 root audio 116, 3 oct 31 14:19 pcmC0D0c
crw-rw----+ 1 root audio 116, 2 oct 31 14:24 pcmC0D0p
crw-rw---- 1 root audio 116, 1 oct 31 14:03 seq
crw-rw----+ 1 root audio 116, 33 oct 31 14:03 timer
lsmod | grep '^snd' | column -t
snd_hda_codec_realtek 37276 1
snd_hda_intel 36520 5
snd_hda_codec 148129 2 snd_hda_codec_realtek,snd_hda_intel
snd_hwdep 6332 1 snd_hda_codec
snd_pcm 77765 3 snd_hda_codec,snd_hda_intel
snd_page_alloc 7202 2 snd_pcm,snd_hda_intel
snd_timer 18718 1 snd_pcm
snd 59141 15 snd_hda_codec_realtek,snd_hwdep,snd_timer,snd_pcm,snd_hda_codec,snd_hda_intel

Playing sounds works perfectly. I tried also LTS kernel, but without success. If I do

arecord -D hw:0 -c 2 -d 0 -f S16_LE -vv /dev/null

There is this slide with # which moves randomly (i.e., even if I don't say anything...)

Amixer can be seen here: http://pastebin.com/LWsEzTUv

Has anyone maybe any hints?

Re: micro suddenly not really working

Very strange... I wanted to exclude that it is a hardware problem. I have just installed the last xubuntu version on a free partition. The micro worked without problems. I restarted into archlinux and it works also well...

This is a little bit desperating if you dont know what its going wrong and what is going well...

Re: micro suddenly not really working

And of course it is not working again. Suddenly in the middle of a skype conversation. The only strnage thing I see in dmesg is:

perf samples too long (2512 > 2500), lowering kernel.perf_event_max_sample_rate to 50100

And if I plug out the micro out and I can speak with the internal micro...

Re: micro suddenly not really working

OpenBSD seems to record crystal clear like its' supposed to.  Other Linux' I've tried seem to act the same way as far as recording.

I may have to CONSOLE you about your usage of ridiculously easy graphical interfaces...

I can't figure out what they are doing differently.  Maybe the support is in their kernel.  But anyhow, you'll probably find that the problem is not specific to ArchLinux.

I'm making some experiments, and the problem does not seem to appear in ubuntu... I have to check what is different in both distros...

Ubuntu uses an LTS kernel for one.
