I'm not sure exactly when this happened, because I don't edit tags on a regular basis, but sometime in probably the past 2 weeks the Sonata client began glitching out when trying to edit tags on mp3s. If you edit the tags they become a mix of random language fonts. Could this be a config issue, or is it a bug in Sonata or one of its dependencies? I'm really not sure how to tell. I don't see any other issues in other apps.

There is anojther thread here somewhere about the same issue, but with ncmpcpp editing tags changes them to Chinese. It sounds like a bug with the recent taglib update.

ah yeah that sounds like the same thing, I do see Chinese characters. Thanks for the info, I appreciate it.

No problem. You could file the bug if it hasn't been opened already...

I went to the project's page, and found their bug reports, and the developer for ncmpcpp filed a report a few days ago, and it has been confirmed by the developer for taglib, and he said it will be fixed in the next version.

Nice work. Please remember to mark your thread as [Solved] by editing your first post and prepending it to the title.

Sorry for bumping a solved thread, but could you provide a link to the bug report(s)? I've just been bitten by this bug, but I don't want to open a duplicate bug report if the developer is already aware of it. I looked on both the ncmpcpp and taglib bug trackers, but couldn't find anything with "Chinese" in the title. I'll keep looking, but if you could provide a link, that'd be helpful. Cheers.

Ah that's it, cheers guys.
EDIT: And there's a couple of solutions too, brilliant. I'll recompile ncmpcpp before I do any more tag editing.
