I think I found why. The site is brand new, and some changes in the virtual hosts may not have propagated yet... How about now?
No, still doesn't work.

Nothing fancy, just KDE 3.5
What font is that in the window decorations?

Mmmh... I see it perfectly. It must be DNS propagation. Later I'll fix it, now I'm in a hurry...

It works now. Nice shot although a bit too much transparency to my taste. It's impressive but it must be hard to read what you type when you have several windows overlapping, IMHO. Maybe it's something you get used to after a certain time... :?

New laptop.
1400x1050
I wish my laptop could go that high. I mis-read the specs when I ordered mine and didn't order the model with the better screen!

it does tend to make fonts tiny though!
lol
Supposedly, I am to have a dpi of 124. I set it up through Xorg to have that dpi.. but it actually seemed to look a bit worse than the default 75dpi that X was using.
So..I just put it back. I can deal with fonts on the smallish side..easier than I can deal with a bit of blurriness.
ps. Ati drivers blow goats. I decided to just stick with the 'ati' default driver instead of the fireglx ones.

Great, and since I didn't change anything, I was right! Fscking DNSs...

Well, that's mostly a showcase shot, I never use transparencies in the browser because it gets really messy with the bg. I sometimes use them while chatting, so that windows are not too much intrusive, or on the ones that I call "side windows" (like the amsn contact list, or a small rss reader): they shouldn't get in the way of the overall desktop look, since you never use them continously. Also, I have a rather uniform background, and transparencies >50% are good for me.
(Note: transparencies are automagically set on Xfce's panels, and they get solid when you roll the mouse over.)
I also wanted to show how good the new compositor is (I have no slow down at all moving around those windows), and the fantastic themes I found for xfce (Minimalistic) and amsn (Brushed Metal)
Last thing I forgot to credit: the background is For Absent Friends, by nonsensical

Strangely, it was working at the university but still doesn't work at home. Probably there's something wrong on my side too. Anyway I saw it.
[EDIT]
It now works at home. Go figure...

I see. And I agree that you need a uniform background for easy to read text. I did used transparency for a while with aterm. However, if I was using black fonts, there was always a dark region on the bg to hide the text. And same thing with white fonts/light region.
