Re: dwb - a webkit web browser

Hi!

I've been running into a few problems recently, which I think might be related:

1) When playing youtube videos with mpv (via the youtube-dl script found on the arch wiki), I can no longer use dwb - the screen is frozen to whatever was shown when I started the video. From all I can tell, keyboard commands are still accepted and processed, it's just that the window doesn't refresh.
2) When scrolling webpages, I no longer get a fluid view but it stutters at the beginning and then it just shows a static screen until I stop scrolling, at which point it correctly shows the position I scrolled to.
Edit: I just did some tests and this doesn't seem to apply anymore.

It seems to me that there is some kind of error with redrawing the window.
I've had this behaviour for some time now, not quite sure how long.

I use the dwb-git version from the AUR (recompiled just now to make sure that it wasn't fixed) and the latest open source ATI drivers from the extra repository (with an ATI Radeon 6870 if that makes a difference).
My window manager is Awesome WM.

I'm happy to provide any information you need to diagnose smile

Edit: I narrowed it down to commit "e761cc9... Check for G_IO_STATUS_AGAIN in system.spawn".
"d88b0a9... Removing unused variables in extensions.js" works fine.

Re: dwb - a webkit web browser

I see that the memory usage is nearby the same as memoryfox (firefox):

dodger  4077  1.3 30.5 5880224 2406968 ?     Sl   nov07  78:51 dwb
dodger  5950  4.6 40.3 7766564 3175976 pts/20 SLl nov07 267:17 dwb -p dodger

I've noticed that my laptop does not freeze as with firefox... but +5GB of ram?
I have 12tabs on the 3GB instance and 21tabs on the 2.5GB one...
That is 264MB/tab & 115MB/tab !!!!

How many ram we will need? pffff

Re: dwb - a webkit web browser

Hi again,
There's some "issues" with ram in firefox 23~25 (for me it has memory consumption issues since ff3 xD)
I see that portix has "accepted" a ticket in dwb's bitbucket git.

I've another issue with dwb, It has crashed in my laptop 2 times in 1 day with SIGSEGV signal while erasing a mail in gmail... the 1st time I thought that it was a random crash, but the 2nd crash doing exactly the same action discards a random issue.
I don't know if open a new ticket cause portix is busy enought :-) (and there are another SIGSEGV tickets)
cheers!

Opening up a ticket is certainly more sensible than to post it here!

I am wondering what these messages mean and how can I disable loading "OpenJDK" every time I launch a new dwb window. I have Java disabled and I tried to disable all plugins with no success.

I do not think it is a dwb bug (maybe a webkit bug or similar) but If you know (or think) the problem is in dwb, please let me know so I can file a new bug report. Thank you.

Regards,
Pedro

Edit: Some of the output I see may be due to "google-talkplugin". I want to also disable this plugin. I really want to disable all plugins but, maybe, flash but I do not mind if I have to disable flash too.

Re: dwb - a webkit web browser

I've been a Firefox and Chromium user for years with Gedit and then Sublime as my editors of choice. Then last year I fell in love with vim, and just this month I discovered luakit, which led me to search for keyboard-centric web browsers (vimprobable, luakit, etc), and then I finally stumbled on dwb.

Effing AWESOME! dwb is the s***. My new favorite browser.

@pedromj

 [doger@ciberterminal ~/.config/dwb]$ pwd
/home/jholgado/.config/dwb
 [doger@ciberterminal ~/.config/dwb]$ egrep -in java-applet settings

Re: dwb - a webkit web browser

I get this:

$ grep -i enable-java-applet settings
enable-java-applet=false

And Java is still loaded (it may be disabled but it is loaded anyway).

Re: dwb - a webkit web browser

Am having problems with dwb releated to issue #371, on trying to log into gmail X restarts. Would I have more luck with git version or wait for a fix? Not had problem like this before so a guessing its a kernel issue?

Re: dwb - a webkit web browser

@Mr Green, I had some issues like this in the past where it seemed as though dwb would crash the whole X server.  I never got to the bottom of it, but if my memory serves me (which is kind of a crap shot), it was towards the beginning of 2013.  The official dwb package, and last version tagged stable, is from March of this year.  I now use dwb-git (and have for some time), and it seems fairly stable.  At the very least, in the event of a crash, it does not bring down the whole X server anymore.

tl;dr Use dwb-git, it seems no less stable than the one in [community].

Re: dwb - a webkit web browser

@WonderWoofy will give dwb-git a go, thanks for heads up ...

Getting this if I push dwb to a log file

g_dbus_connection_real_closed: Remote peer vanished with error: Underlying GIOStream returned 0 bytes on an async read (g-io-error-quark, 0). Exiting.

This is with dwb-git and I am getting the same problem.

Re: dwb - a webkit web browser

Hi again,

I'm trying to allow scripts on all deviantart.com subdomains(artist.deviantart.com, yet_another_artist.deviantart.com etc). I tried the following:
I added *.deviantart.com to the scripts.allow file.
I added '"*.deviantart.com" : { enableScripts : true },' to the domains array in the perdomainsettings configuration.
I also tried this with "deviantart.com" and ".deviantart.com".

Could somebody give me a hint?

Re: dwb - a webkit web browser

scripts.allow and perdomainsettings both don't support wildcards. deviantart.com in the domain settings should work (i have just tested it). What might be confusing is that dwb will still indicate that scripts are disabled if they are enabled with perdomainsettings.

Edit: you could also use whitelistshortcuts which allows to set settings domain-based with a shortcut.

Re: dwb - a webkit web browser

Is there any chance to use dwb with anything-sync-daemon? I know that this question was asked about one year ago too, but the only answer was that profile-sync-daemon is for browsers. But profile-sync-daemon doesn't support dwb or at least I have no clue how to make it work with psd. Any suggestions?

Re: dwb - a webkit web browser

I think the dev doesn't want to support dwb. It doesn't make much sense to use profile-sync-daemon with dwb, if you set file-sync-interval to a high value dwb won't write to disk or read from disk anyway.

Is it possible to disable all bold fonts on a particular website, i.e., Facebook in my case?

Re: dwb - a webkit web browser

You can use a custom stylesheet, either bei setting user-stylesheet-uri which is applied to all websites or with perdomainsettings that allows for setting user-stylesheet-uri for every site individually.

I have tried perdomainsettings, but it only allows a limited number of webkitwebsettings. I couldn't make it work to set font-weight: normal.

The facebook bold font issue is also evident on other webkit browsers like Luakit. But Chromium and Firefox are fine.

Re: dwb - a webkit web browser

dwb doesn't have a font-weight setting, you can use a userstylesheet with a rule

* {
    font-weight : normal
}
