Touchpad gets stuck scrolling after resume.

Hi, I have an acer V3-571G, running 3.10.15-1-lts (though this issue happens with the current stable kernel also).

Basically, if the laptop suspends and resumes, often it will get stuck in "scroll" mode, as if I already have a finger on it.

The current solution is to restart X but obviously this is quite tiresome if I'm trying to do some work.

I'm having the same problem with an Acer 1410. Seems like it's a problem with the Acer driver, but I haven't seen this problem in Ubuntu or Fedora. What DE are you using? I'm using KDE.

I have, but for some reason the problem appears after heavy CPU loads. Acer laptop here also.

For a temporary fix I've used an alias "mousefix" in .bashrc for a command sudo modprobe -r psmouse && sudo modprobe psmouse and using it when the bug takes effect.

Re: Touchpad gets stuck scrolling after resume.

It seems like, at least in my case, that it thinks I'm touching the touchpad with two fingers instead of one, and therefore tries to scroll. Do you have two finger scrolling enabled.

Maybe a better workaround would be to reload the module on every resume.

It's been awhile since ubuntu was installed on this laptop, so it could be an issue with the current kernel or driver. Fedora would exhibit strange touchpad behavior occasionally, but not this particular issue. The cursor wanted to stay in one half of the screen.

I'm wondering if it's caused by a particular combination of touchpad options. That's why I asked about the DE. KDE offers alot more options than Gnome via synaptiks.

Yeah, two finger scrolling enabled and exactly the same behaviour after freezing.

IIRC, when I still used Linux Mint, I had this problem with all DEs I worked with: Mate, Xfce and Cinnamon. With Arch I've used Xfce and mainly i3, same problem on both of them. Always with two finger scrolling on.

Sharing this information for helping OP and others, modprobe commands are enough for me even though I'm interested in the deeper reasons of this bug.

Same issue with me. I am on XFCE, Thinkpad T420. I just use the trackpoint to disable and enable it again from XFCE settings and it works.

Dell Vostro V131 with Openbox here, same problem. Although it occurs randomly, for example it hasn't happened for over two weeks now. A workaround is to just have an alias/hotkey/whatever that restarts the module.

I have the same problem with both evdev and libinput. That doesn't seem to be after resume though, this happens quite randomly. Would this be a kernel bug?

AnAkkk, please do not "necrobump" old threads.  A lot has changed in two years - your symptoms may be somewhat similar, but this is almost certainly not th same problem.  Please start a new thread; feel free to link to this one if you suspect it is still related.
