Re: kernel 3.12 cause vmware 10.0.0.1 failure

I can also confirm that I am getting this error. With kernel 3.12.0-1-ARCH and nvidia 331.20. I cannot remember if I fired up a VM before the 331.20 nvidia update.

Re: kernel 3.12 cause vmware 10.0.0.1 failure

The problem is not with kernel 3.12.0-1-ARCH it is infact with the nvidia driver 331.20. If you downgrade to v325.15 your VM's will boot.

$ /var/cache/pacman/pkg/
$ sudo pacman -U nvidia-325.15-11-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz nvidia-utils-325.15-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz nvidia-libgl-325.15-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz

Not really a fix but if you need your VM's this will work...

Re: kernel 3.12 cause vmware 10.0.0.1 failure

nvidia-325.15-11-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz work with kernel 3.12?

No, you need to downgrade the kernel as well.

Check the Arch Rollback Machine. You need to downgrade nvidia, nvidia-utils, nvidia-libgl, linux, and linux-headers.

Downgrading nvidia like jz_train suggested worked fine for me, didn't need to downgrade the kernel as well. So maybe it's just a lucky combination of kernel+nvidia driver, but for me it works.

Re: kernel 3.12 cause vmware 10.0.0.1 failure

Hmm... I tried running vmware workstation as root and it fires up as normal on the nvidia 331.20 driver.... Something with the new nvidia driver and VM power management...

Yes it will if you rebuild the NVIDIA 325.15 module with the nvidia-linux-3.12.patch. Download all source files and build it.

I don't understand why Arch dev's updated to 331.20 when the driver is obviously this buggy.
Personally I experienced hangs/ display locks and needed to hard reboot.
