syslogd vs syslog-ng

I notice that I've been using syslogd ever since installing Arch back in 0.6 days. But newer rc.conf.pacnew files are coming in with syslog-ng in the daemon array. Can someone tell me the difference between these, with reasons to choose one over the other?

Re: syslogd vs syslog-ng

According to the description, syslog-ng is more flexible. Currently, I'm running both : syslog-ng, syslogd and klogd.  When I installed Arch, I was using syslog-ng. However, when I was having problem with my modem, kppp was referring to a /var/log/message file to get the error message. As an intelligent guess, I installed sysklogd and the file was created.  Maybe the information was in another file. Even though I'm not using my modem anymore, I haven't bothered removing syslogd and klogd from rc.conf.  Anyway, it's an interesting question.
