Aleatory black screen when shutting down or rebooting

laptop-mode-tools enabled,settings not customized
problem: Sometimes when I shut down or reboot the screen goes black nothing happens except the laptop keeps running.I have this problem for some time but I didn't bother taking care of it because I had too much stuff on my mind so I can't pinpoint exactly when it all started.
I use systemctl poweroff/reboot in order to shut down/reboot my laptop.
