mozilla upgrading

what would be the correct procedure for upgrading mozilla from a tarball without breaking dependencies in the package system, if possible, or at least not breaking any bonobo/gecko depedent apps on the system...
normally i would just unpack the tarball and compile it
stick it in /opt
change /usr/lib/mozilla to link to mozilla-whatever instead of mozilla-oldwhatever
same for /usr/include/mozilla

i would like to find the exact procedure for doing this before i totally mess up my mozilla config smile

Re: mozilla upgrading

are you just wanting to version upgrade or do you desire to do more?

if you just want to version upgrade :

1. run abs
2. cd into /usr/abs/network/mozilla
3. Edit you PKGBUILD to read whatever version you want. Remember tp make any correction elsewhere in the build that may be thrown off.
4. Save you changes then run makepkg
5. Wait for about and hour and a half or more while the source is downloaded and built.
6. install the resulting mozilla package with pacman -A or pacman -U.

if the resulting instal will not launch then remove /opt/mozilla and install again as moz will sometimes leave traces behind that arch will not remove.

Re: mozilla upgrading

i forgot to mention that you need to su to root to run makepkg (and likely abs too). as well when you pacman -A or pacman -U the final package you must use the entire package name (ie foopackage-ver-rel#.pkg.tar.gz
