Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hello everyone,

I'm new to the forum. I finally got arch installed on my MacBookPro 8,1 and I love it. I'm also a XMonad user, Vim fanatic and cannot live without Pentadactyl.

Looking forward to making some friends here.

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hello everyone,

My name is Rod and I am running Arch on a Thinkpad T430 so I thought I'd use. . . .never mind.  Anyway, this is my very first post here as I have been using ubuntu exclusively(in one flavor or another) since I started using Linux almost 4 years ago. Truth is I had no idea how little I'd learned about Linux since we began our relationship until I did my first Arch install 4 days ago. And now I'm stoked. Ready to learn. Contribute. Grow. Repeat. So, without further adieu. . . .Let's do this.

Hi, my name is Mike, and I'm an archaholic...

I have been in IT for 10+ years, in pretty much all Windows environments, I have always dabbled in Linux in one way or another but honestly there was never one distro that really appealed to me. Then I came across Arch... for me this is the best way to do Linux, build a system to exactly what you want and need, without any fluff... and stable which is something I never got in the Windows world. Thanks to Arch I am a full convert to Linux now, atleast at home, unfortunately at work I am still stuck with winblows.

Hello All.....

I'm an old time Arch user that is coming back..  I used Arch from around 2005 to 2010 and then moved to Debian for the last few years..  I've decided to come back to my beloved Arch to see how things are going.   I've noticed that the install is pretty much completely changed since the old days - I'm looking forward to getting back in and enjoying a blazing fast, clean system again!  :-)

I'm curious which Debian you were running: Stable, Sid, Crunchbang, Aptosid, other?  From Debian Stable to Arch would be quite a trip. smile

Welcome back jack.

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hello everyone,

I've been using Ubuntu flavours for about 6 years. I decided to install Arch 3 days ago just to see if I'd like it. Aside from Alsa troubles, install was a pretty pain free, and now I am loving Arch. Just wanted to thank everyone who contributed to the amazing Wiki, hopefully I will learn my way and contribute myself soon.

Hello All,

I'm a sophomore ECE student at university who has been using Ubuntu-ish distros since 2011. I feel like I've never really gotten to know the nitty-gritty of my system with the buntus. I just got a new laptop and I decided to try arch instead so I could hopefully learn something in the process.

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hi everyone. I'm a what-other-people-would-call-a-hacker who uses Linux because Metro happened.
I originally used Debian, but Google Chrome kept crashing, so I switched to Ubuntu.
It worked for while, but completely broke when I was trying to get my hybrid Intel/ATI graphics setup to work.
So I switched to Arch Linux a couple days ago, and so far it's working (almost) perfectly! After spending an hour implementing changes I had been trying to do in Ubuntu for months, my idle computer temperature has dropped from 80 to 60 degrees, and I finally got my graphics system to work how I wanted.

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

New guy here, got Arch up and running and have enjoyed the challenge and accomplishment so far. I like it a lot better than Ubuntu, and suspect that sentiment will get much stronger in the months to come. I know I will be asking for help (probably often) and want to say thanks in advance for any offered.

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hi All,

I'm long-time linux user, I started in 1998 with Mandrake and Red Hat. Since then I was using couple of different distros to feel satisfied with Arch Linux as my main OS. I'am using Arch for a couple of years now and I like it for complying with KISS rule smile

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hello everyone!

I thought I should introduce myself as I probably will spend a lot of time here from now on. Just finished my first Arch install, still trying to get used to it. Not exactly new to Linux, been using Ubuntu for 6~7 years but was never an "expert". I'll be trying to completely replace my Ubuntu boxes with Arch, and until now I am really liking the change in paradigm smile

Hi all, back again from Gentoo land for now. I flip flop between the two constantly. It's quite sad.

No it is not.  I moderate here, yet have both installed on this laptop smile
It is good to have both the ultimate and penultimate setups.

Welcome back.

Haha Well said. big_smile

That question is there simply to help reduce the "noise" on the Arch Linux forums. It's kind of nice. I find these forums to be one of the cleanest, most organized sources of information and help on the Internet!

But don't feel stressed about saying something "wrong" or anything. Just read the forum etiquette and search before posting. The moderators and the karol are nice and will help you.

And it's not all seriousness here! Sometimes we talk about fun things like eating tacos, or eating poutine, or sometimes even things that aren't about eating! smile

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hi all!

I've been a Gentoo user for years now, but I thought it was high time to try something new. And coming from Gentoo, what else could it be than Arch? :-)

Looking back, I was sticking with Gentoo for only one of its major selling points: the freedom / configurability. Compiling everything from source didn't really speed up my system that much, but large updates were frustratingly slow. As for USE-flags… well, they seemed to be causing more problems than they were solving.

I'm still running Gentoo on my PC, and installed Arch on my netbook. I'm happy with it so far; no major frustrations yet. When I'm confident enough with the system, and am able to free up a weekend sometime, I'll probably switch over on my PC too.

Cheers!

Hello everyone.

I switched to arch in order to learn as much as possible about Linux. Hopefully this will turnout to be an educational and inspiring journey.
