Fluxbox like E17

http://www.linuxin.dk/eyecandy/2656_3.jpg

Look, that fluxbox reminds me of E17 with the shadow thing. How do I do that? Is it xorg7?

Re: Fluxbox like E17

I just looked in the screenshot thread, and it was xorg7 with composite extensions as I thought. I might move over to xorg7, but I gotta now how I enable it.

Xcompmgr. Composite in Xorg 7 is very fast even without hardware accel.

Re: Fluxbox like E17

I could not install xorg7. If I was tryin to remove the package "xorg" it would break alot of dependcies, and if I was trying to install xorg7 there were file conflicts.

Should I just force installation of xorg7?

Wow, does fglrx ever hate composite and xcompmgr. tongue  Especially with dual-head setup... it tried to render my second head over top of the first on my normal monitor. big_smile

What are you talking about? I use Nvidia. :?

Holy crap.  I think those are all files that belong to xorg... what happens when you run

pacman -Qo /usr/include/X11/DECkeysym.h

for instance?

That's wierd though... xorg-server provides and replaces xorg, so when you install it, it should remove xorg for you before it installs xorg-server.

Well, that's great for you, but if you didn't notice, I was talking about what happened on MY system when I tried to enable it (ie. I used words like "my normal monitor")

Wait a minute whargoul, you use nVidia? Than don't bother with Xorg 7, try using nVidia's proprietary drivers with RenderAccel enabled.

Re: Fluxbox like E17

No package owns those files?  Luckily I still have my xorg package cached... big_smile

$ pacman -Qpl xorg-11R6.8.2-6.pkg.tar.gz | grep DECkeysym.h
xorg usr/X11R6/include/X11/DECkeysym.h

So those files are all likely owned by xorg.  It's wierd that pacman doesn't know that... you still have xorg 6.8 installed, right?
If you do, it might help to do a quick

pacman -Sf xorg

to make sure all the files are properly associated with it, then... the -f flag will ignore the conflicts that are bound to come up.

So you mean I just should

$ pacman -Sf xorg-server

now?

Re: Fluxbox like E17

whargoul, I was worried why those files aren't listed as being part of the xorg package.  If you still have the old xorg installed, doing a

pacman -Sf xorg

would make sure all of xorg's files are associated with its package in pacman, so when you do a

pacman -S xorg-server

you don't even need to worry about the conflicts, and pacman should take care of everything for you.

Admittedly, forcing xorg-server would probably work too, but it confuses me why pacman doesn't handle the older xorg package correctly on your system.

Re: Fluxbox like E17

Finally xorg7 is up and running. But I can't get "evdev" working, and I have installed the "xf86-input-evdev" package. It says that it can't find module "evdev"

Re: Fluxbox like E17

Hmm, and I can't seem to get composite extension working.

    Identifier "GeForce 6600"
    Driver "nvidia"
    Option "RenderAccel" "true"
    Option "AllowGLXWithComposite" "true"
    #Option "UseEdidDPI" "false"
    #Option "DPI" "101 x 108"
    #VideoRam 262144
    # Insert Clocks lines here if appropriate
EndSection

That is right, right?

---EDIT---

Never mind. I found it in the wiki.

I had the same problem. You have to use evdev as Driver not as Protocol-Option:

Section "InputDevice"
        Identifier "Mouse0"
        Driver "evdev"
        Option "Device" "/dev/input/g5"
EndSection

Note: /dev/input/g5 gets generated by a selfmade udev-rule. Search the Xorg7-thread for more information.

Yeah I now that. But if you keep adesklets on a black area, you can't see that it is shadowed.

Re: Fluxbox like E17

Hmm, stranges. I can't view any images with GThumb, and 'qiv' says this:

whargoul:~$ qiv backgrounds/*
Gdk-ERROR **: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
  serial 114 error_code 8 request_code 2 minor_code 0

What does that mean? It worked well yesterday.
