I have a laptop with x and awesome wm. When i plug the mouse it simply does nothing(and also when booted with the device connected). The mouse works, and even on the same machine(in the windows partition) so it's certainly a problem about linux.
Here's what I checked:

No signs of the mouse. I tried plugin and unplugging to see any changes, but nothing (diff returned nothing).

WELL. I've just spent more than five hours finding this error. A few days ago i'd been trying to save some battery, and to do so I had edited some files. One of them the blacklist of modprobe. Yeap, i blacklisted the USB Hid core driver. Sometimes i hate me.

Don't worry, I think we have all had this kind of self inflicted problematic shit before. Don't forget to mark your thread as [Solved]. This can be done by editing the first post, which will also allow you to edit the title.
