Neither hplip nor I can find ppd for Officejet_6000_E609a [Solved]

I'm trying to get cups set up on my computer, but this happens every time I try to set up hplip:

I've looked around but can't find any ppd for officejet 6000 (most say it should work out of the box).  What should i do?

Edit: Upon running hp-check, I found that CUPS needed to be on in order for hplip to work.
