I'm having trouble trying to install backintime from AUR.
I'm getting this error:
[ben@ben backintime]$ sudo pacman -U *.pkg*
loading packages...
resolving dependencies...
looking for inter-conflicts...
error: unresolvable package conflicts detected
error: failed to prepare transaction (conflicting dependencies)
:: backintime-gnome and backintime-gtk are in conflict
Any ideas? Thanks.

Ok, figured it out. I'm used to installing packages with pacman -U *.pkg* which obviously won't work if there's multiple packages for gnome and kde. Had to install the "any" package, then the KDE.

Hello!
Having the same problem but I have no idea how to install the "any" package ... how to do that?
Could you please elaborate?
thx for your help,
piedro

piedro, what exactly are you trying to do, what commands did you use? What errrors are you getting?
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/backintime/ has 'any' as the architecture, because it works both for 32 and 64-bits.

You only need to install one of them... if running gnome use -gnome, if not, use -gtk. Look at the PKGBUILD, -gnome has more dependencies.

thx, Karol!
I get your point. But when I use AUR to install the package "backintime" i get this error. I am not sure how to control that only "backintime-kde4" is installed or how to install "backintime" (probably the "-any"-package?) without getting this error. Do I have to edit the pkbuild file somehow?
Thx for your efforts,
piedro
p.s.: note that none of the mentioned packages is installed. "backintime" isn't present in any way atm ...

Since you didn't tell us what exactly you did, I can't help you.

Sry:
yaourt -S backintime
gives me the described error
(when asked if I want to edit the PKBUILD file I answered "no" and left it untouched ...)

@op - If you're using an AUR helper do not.
1) Download the tarball
2) Extract it
3) cd into it
4) makepkg -src
5) Manually install the needed packages using pacman -U ...

Thank youi very much!
This works. I had to "pacman -U backintime-1.0.28-6-any.pkg.tar.xz" and then after that I could install the correct frontend.
(in my case "pacman -U backintime-kde4-1.0.28-6-any.pkg.tar.xz")
that's it!

All this is not necessary anymore - the "backintime" package from the AUR now doesn't need anymore specific gnome or kde packages...
thx, everyone
