New release

2 days ago I did a paman -Syu and it killed arch for me.

I had backed up the system (though I am struggling to restore it from the backup, this is a different isue).

Each time I do a fresh install via usb stick, I get the same problem.

I assume something was changed 2/3 days ago, but I wouldn't have a clue what it would be.

I am receiving the error: unknown filesystem type 'vfat'. it also won't let me connect using dhcpcd.

The laptop I am using is new this week so I am concerned it might be a problem... but windows 7 is working fine... it MUST be a package upgrade.

Can anyone please help me work out what the problem is? I only have 2 days to return my laptop if it is faulty.

Thanks

Re: New release

I don't know what the issue is. Can you please post more details in an orderly fashion e.g. which packages were updated and what exactly do you mean by "it killed arch for me"?
When do you get the vfat error? What command did you run?

Re: New release

Sounds to me like your kernel and modules don't match. Are you booting with UEFI?

Can you post the output of:

uname -r
pacman -Q linux

No idea what mtools does, I don't have it installed and I can mount FAT partitions fine.

Re: New release

Was linux (kernel) one of the packages that got updated? Did you reboot afterwards?

Re: New release

If it is the source of the problem, note that you'll need to either boot a live environment, or downgrade your kernel (so that you have the right modules installed) to mount your ESP. If you don't have the old kernel in your pacman cache, you should be able to find it on the ARM.

Re: New release

This is now fixed. You were correct about the wrong kernel version. Thanks for all your help!
