[REQUEST] Xeoma video surveillance

THIS looks like a great (updated) alternative to Zoneminder. I'm going to look into building this AUR package myself, but I am a SERIOUS newby and would like to see if anyone else is willing to either step in to handle it or at least help me get it off the ground. Thanks in advance!

Give it a shot, then ask for help if you're not sure about something. I'm downloading it now to take a closer look.

Edit, wow, massive single binary only linked to a couple of libs. Should be easy, but there is an install option, not sure what that's about.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm looking into it a little. I haven't decided to follow the install procedure built into it just yet. I'm on a 64bit system and downloaded the 32bit tarball just to see what was inside it. I hope to get a closer look at this soon. Seems that the PKGBUILD itself may only incorporate downloading the "install" file into a folder in /opt and making it available in /usr/bin to execute and allow the "install" to do the rest of the setup. Hoping to get a chance to look more into this soon.

Even after trying it, I'm still not clear on what the install actually does. If you can do the install prior to packaging, that would be ideal, but I know that's not always possible.

I'm under the impression that this may be like a java program where it has it's own install process that allows you to get everything setup properly. It requests admin access (via gksudo) and before I do that, I just wanna look into some things and make sure I'm not sending that info back to anybody or anything. May come off as slightly paranoid, but if I'm looking to see this packaged on Arch, I prefer to be safer than not. Anyyone else willing to look into this would be greatly appreciated. I honestly can't say that I know if gksudo's functionality is isolated to just the computer (basically whether or not keystrokes can be recorded and sent upstream to someone else... or something of that nature). Again, I know it might seem paranoid, but this program is new to me, and I prefer to be safe from the beginning.

Slightly off-topic, but I wouldn't characterise this as an alternative to Zoneminder at all. Zoneminder is open source, and for me that is the most critical requirement for any security-related application. This thing is a blob, and IMO that is not compatible with your self-confessed paranoia and desire to be safe.
