[SOLVED] Touchpad click and drag problem with synaptics 1.7.2

I've recently started having a problem when I try to drag the mouse pointer using my laptop touchpad.  I'm accustomed to the following motions:

1. Touch index finger to the pad
2. Drag index finger to set starting cursor position
3. Press physical left button with thumb, without lifting index finger
4. Drag index finger to set ending cursor position
5. Lift thumb from left button

With xf86-input-synaptics 1.7.1 and earlier, this sequence used to be registered as a "drag and drop" action.  But with the new version 1.7.2, it is only registered as a single click where I would expect the drag to end.  To get the "drag and drop" action, I have to lift my index finger between steps 2 and 3 and then touch it to the pad again between steps 3 and 4.  This is quite annoying, and I would rather not have to adjust to the extra motions.  Is anyone else seeing this problem, or does anyone know if there is a setting to change back to the old behavior?

EDIT: Never mind, the problem went away after updating again and rebooting.  A bit mysterious.
