Hi all,
As the title says, what are (based on your experiences) the best sysctl settings for a netbook with 1G of RAM? I now have vm.swappiness=10 and vm.vfs_cache_pressure=50. Should I change these to a lower or higher value? Any other parameters I should add? Let me know!
Thanks for your help.

I already read that article, and followed most of it. Should I set my swappiness to 1, then?

Yup.
Do you use swap partition / file? How big is it? Do you use zram?

Okay, I'll set the swap value to 1. Yes, I have a 1,9G swap partition. I also tried zram, but I didn't really feel a difference in performance, so I removed it.

How much RAM and swap do you usually use?
Are you having any issues with responsiveness of your system?

Generally I use about ~400M RAM, but when idling, it is about 200. The system actually becomes very slow when I leave it on a long time. When I am on Debian, I never experience that.

What do you mean when you say "becomes very slow"?
Is it slow in starting programs?

Indeed, and also the mouse hangs, the system becomes inresponsive and windows won't move.

I find that when X hangs on my netbook just switching out of X with Ctrl+Alt+F1 then back in with Alt+F7 fixes things. Not sure why it happens.
