Re: [SOLVED] Firefox 26 Crashing - Assertion Failure

I have the same problem and it always occurs when I open a PDF. Downgraded to firefox 25 and the issue is no longer a problem. Guess I'll be running 25 until next firefox update.

Kernel: 3.12.5-1
Nvidia: 331.20

Running the following extensions: lastpass, https everywhere. No firefox sync.

Downgraded with: pacman -U firefox-25.0.1-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz

Re: [SOLVED] Firefox 26 Crashing - Assertion Failure

+1!
Firefox 26.0 here just closing indefinitely. It seems random to me, rendering PDF, complex sites or even simple blogs that are almost plain text.
My GPU driver is the nvidia binary and I use some addons(the same for a couple of months) and sync.

I hope someone could figure this out smile

Re: [SOLVED] Firefox 26 Crashing - Assertion Failure

Same problem here. I would add that for me it happens in Awesome WM. I tried switching to i3 and it doesn't crash there. On my other machine I selectively only upgraded the firefox package (nothing else) and it segfaults in Awesome WM too. GDB backtrace is not available. I tried recompiling firefox from ABS with debug symbols, but the build failed. I also tried disabling the new media.gstreamer.enabled i about:config, but it had no effect.

Re: [SOLVED] Firefox 26 Crashing - Assertion Failure

+1 problems with Firefox 26.0-2 crash, crash, crashing all the time. PDFs do it but also random actions crash firefox at any time.

3.12.5-1-ARCH, NVidia 331.20 and using FF sync.

Grateful to the eventual gremlin stomper! smile

Re: [SOLVED] Firefox 26 Crashing - Assertion Failure

Just for perspective, I'm running kernel 3.12.5-1-ARCH with Nvidia 331.20-2. I do use Firefox sync. I also have a laptop running i3 and the Intel drivers and FF hasn't crashed once on there.

Strangely though, I switched from XFCE+Kwin to straight KDE yesterday and the crashing issue seems to have improved. It was able to run for hours last night without a terminal in the background, then after a suspend the crashes started again.

Re: [SOLVED] Firefox 26 Crashing - Assertion Failure

Same problem occurs on my laptop since yesterdays system update (and firefox update)

Firefox 26 crashes with console output:
Segmentation fault (core dumped)

Uname -a gives:
Linux t61 3.12.5-1-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Thu Dec 12 12:57:31 CET 2013 x86_64 GNU/Linux

nvidia-settings -v:
331.20

XFCE 4.10

It crashes very often in my case so I downgraded 26.0-2 => 25.0.1-1...

I actually "downgraded" to firefox-esr-bin 24.2.0-1 from AUR for the time being, because it's a reasonably up-to-date non-crashing version with security patches that the 25.x won't get.

Re: [SOLVED] Firefox 26 Crashing - Assertion Failure

as i already wrote in another thread:
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=1362997

Hi there,

i am experiencing various crashes with firefox-26.0-2-x86_64 when trying to download a file. It is reproducable. Does not happen with firefox-26.0-1-x86_64. As i can't find any firefox crash reports, i only can post the terminal output:

Speicherzugriffsfehler (Speicherabzug geschrieben)

WARNING: pipe error (3): Die Verbindung wurde vom Kommunikationspartner zurückgesetzt: file /build/firefox/src/mozilla-release/ipc/chromium/src/chrome/common/ipc_channel_posix.cc, line 437

Any ideas?
_abraxas

EDIT: seems to happen with firefox-26.0-1-x86_64 also, but not as regularly, however sometimes with another error msg:

(process:15703): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_slice_set_config: assertion 'sys_page_size == 0' failed
Speicherzugriffsfehler (Speicherabzug geschrieben)

EDIT 2: why is this package compiled with --disable-crashreporter? hence i cannot access about:crashes, nor can my problem be dumped to mozilla :-/

Re: [SOLVED] Firefox 26 Crashing - Assertion Failure

After a pacman -Syu on 2013-12-19 (Just after my complaint here) the packages systemd (208-2 -> 208-3), mkinitcpio (0.15.0-1 -> 16-1), pcre (8.33-2 -> 8.34-1), raptor (2.0.10-3 -> 2.0.12-1) and systemd-sysvcompat (208-2 -> 208-3) were upgraded.
I don't know if it's related, but since then Firefox has stopped crashing and I didn't change anything on it, I'm using sync and the same addons.

I'm experiencing the same thing as everyone on the thread. I've noticed that if I run Firefox in command line, however, the crashes stop. Weird.

Re: [SOLVED] Firefox 26 Crashing - Assertion Failure

I wonder if this is related to Nvidia hardware.  My desktop has the Nvidia GPU and is experiencing cosntant crashing, seeminly hastened when trying to open PDFs.  I am not experiencing any crashing on my laptop (Intel) or my server (ATI), they are rock solid as per the usual.

It seems as though mine has stopped crashing too. I'm not sure which update fixed it, but I've been running FF without terminal since yesterday and I haven't experienced any crashes. Anyone else who has updated recently found that their crashing has stopped?

Re: [SOLVED] Firefox 26 Crashing - Assertion Failure

Is anyone experiencing crashes that is NOT running nvidia?

For me it crashes somewhat randomly but always when the "master password" dialog comes up. Any type of plugin like flash or java also seems to make it crashes. Other times it seems to be related to particular javascript that is running (mainly graphics related I think).

The only updates I see are to gcc-libs-multilib and gcc-multilib. Is that the fix?

These are the only updates I had too. I'm reverting to nvidia (from nouveau, which was a decent temporary fix btw) now, to try it out, will report with results.

I had come to that conclusion as well, had some zombie processes spawning after a restart and some firefox testing, but now all seems well. PDFs, which crashed firefox without fail, now deem to keep stable.

Great, a few more confirmations of this fixing itself for people and I'll mark the thread solved.

Re: [SOLVED] Firefox 26 Crashing - Assertion Failure

I sorry to bring more bad news, but on mine it still happens.
I just powered computer now and it happened twice(it happens since yesterday, or a bit earlier).
On my case it either crashes many times starting, or once every few hours.
Starting from the CLI also makes it become a lot better.
Arch x86_64 - Nvidia proprietary. It still didn't happened with radeon drivers.
The only updates i have are:
multilib/lib32-libxcb extra/libxcb
extra/qt5-base extra/qt5-declarative extra/qt5-graphicaleffects extra/qt5-imageformats  extra/qt5-location extra/qt5-xmlpatterns
extra/qt5-multimedia extra/qt5-quick1 extra/qt5-script extra/qt5-sensors extra/qt5-svg extra/qt5-tools extra/qt5-translations extra/qt5-webkit
extra/xcb-proto
