An idea for Pacman

Here is an idea for pacman...

I really like how it leaves old packages in the cache. However,  keeping every old package can quickly add up to some space. So, humble little me has an idea  8)

What you would do is this... Have pacman delete an old package only if there are two newer versions in the cache. That way, you have some backup if stuff gets horked, but it is at least somewhat space concious and you do not have 15 versions of old packages taking up space.

I think that it should be pretty easy to implement (heh - this coming from a non-programming network geek) - just throw a database at it to track how many old versions you have laying around on the HDD.

Someone already created something like that.  Check the User Contributions section... I can't remember much else though.

Re: An idea for Pacman

feh i prefered just to clear the cache every so often. i so rarely uninstalled and reinstalled packages that caching stuff for more than a month was a waste.
