[SOLVED] Steam (Only game using Portal/Half Life engine) Ultra Lag

When playing the valve games Half Life (+ Garry's mod) and Portal I get about 1 FPS amd all the sounds are glitchy, even at the menus before I create game/load a save.

I have KMS enabled, I am using intel graphics and my processor is, according to /proc/cpuinfo Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2415M CPU @ 2.30GHz, quad core GenuineIntel

    # /etc/mkinitcpio.conf showing important bits
    MODULES="intel_agp i915 ahci libahci"
    FILES="/etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf"
    HOOKS="base systemd autodetect modconf block filesystems keyboard keymap uresume shutdown"
    # /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf
    options i915 modeset=1

Are there some driver type things I can configure to make these games playable? Steam uses it's own drvers but if I disable them, no games work, so maybe I can install the correct drivers and use these.

FYI I have starbound running through steam and minecraft not running through steam and they run very well (even with HD, high detail etc...)

Huh, try to disable at the settings -> "in-game" ->  enable steam community in-game, probably won't help but it's worth a shot. Most likely it's not steam, but the source engine it self. You can also try to lower the resolution and disable effects, then restart the game and see if the FPS improves or not (use net_graph from the console to obtain the correct FPS the engine manages to achieve and compare these FPS between settings, hopefully you will find some good config.)
PS: i had the similar issue with TF2, i had stable 60 FPS, then after an update, bang, down to 1 fps, and it was a model setting, i disabled that and i'm back to 60fps - what i mean here is that, if you can run minecraft with good fps, then i most likely it's not the graphics card configuration but some in-game configuration.
All the best.

On GMod disabling all fancy detail/lighting etc (including steam in game integration) bumps it up to about 3FPS and there is still a lot of graphical artifacts.

Just to compare I downloaded TF2 but it is just as bad even with all low details etc. It must be something to do with their source engine (all these valve ones use the same one).

sad
