[Solved] Nvidia GTX 660 GPU and Drivers

I have recently built a new PC and done a clean install of arch linux 64-Bit.  During the install process I installed the NVIDIA driver package which resulted in my screen flickering different colours.  I then tried the NVIDIA beta driver from the AUR which done the same.  Next I tried the Nouveau drivers which worked so I installed gnome etc and got the desktop up and running no problem.  But now when I try use any program that is remotely GPU intensive like steam the computer hangs and I need to cut the power.  I would use the vesa driver but i need the 3D acceleration for games =P.

Prove nvidia 304xx was added to the official repositories. Following the steps in the wiki to configure.

Fixed the problem.  Wasn't anything to do with the graphics drivers or my card it was the xorg config file.  I got one of they Yamakasi DS270 SE korean monitors from ebay and the nvidia-xconfig command couldn't detect the correct settings for the monitor.  So i edited the xorg config file using the data shown on this site http://www.codesim.com/tips/index.php?t=3

Also on bootup I had a message saying RAW EDID now that is gone after editing the xorg config file so that was probally related to the problem.  My computer now runs great with the NVIDIA propriety driver.
